In the past, I felt excited when I bought a new MBP. However, this time I felt nothing. Zero level of excitement at all. Perhaps due to lack of innovation, having to plug in dongles, and disappearance of several features we all loved in exchange for thinness. Is this normal? I would rather try out the new ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo.

I love mine. I came from a 2013 15” 4 core i7 and got an 8 core i9 with double the ram and double the storage (16GB to 32GB and 512GB to 1TB). I guess that I just waited until I got a nice boost from an upgrade. I plan on keeping my new one for just as long.

And that's why I'm still using a 2010 mbp. I might replace it when the new iPad pros come out.

What exactly is this supposed to mean?

I meant no innovation with MBP for the past few years.

Yep. Literally bought a 15" MBP and sent it back due to the 16" rumours...

I returned my MBP. The guy in the store seems to be a high school student or a fresher. He asked me over four times what I meant by not comfortable with the keyboard and joked around. I answered him four times already but he continued. He act like a jerk and made the return process difficult even the machine was like brand new condition. I did not open the protective case and the beat headphone to make the return as smooth as possible already. In the middle, several high school friends of his came by and he just chatted with them rather than finishing up with the return process. I had everything packed nicely. After he checked the MBP, he put it in the box and then tried to put the protective sheet on top of it. Then, he took out the machine and repacked the machine again. After I asked him to bring the manager out to process my return, he changed his attitude completely. Apple services also turned bad.

Yeah this is one of the reasons I go with Amazon most of the times.. Just send it back and no hassle.

What kind of innovation would you expect? Apple has now more or less reached the pinnacle of the classical laptop vision, it’s difficult to streamline it further. Changing stuff up just to change it is not always smart. Besides, their m design cycle is usually 4 years. We are now at the end of it, so let’s see what they have come up with next.

That said, I don’t really get excited about new laptops anymore, but I guess it’s because I’m getting older.

Good help is hard to find. I'm sure they'll send you an email asking about the service and offering a survey. Answer the survey! I did and requested a phone call and I had a long discussion with the manager of my local Apple store. I got a load of my chest, I received an apology and was told she'd work harder.

Not really very excited

T2 chip / Soldered memory / soldered SSD / Crappy Keyboard are the concerns

Like the look of the MBP and still like the MacOS ecosystem, with iPhone, IPP, watch etc.

But the MBP is not easily repairable at anywhere but apple - I really can't stand going to apple stores for service

I might just buy a used 2015 that I can upgrade and keep as a back up to my existing MBP

I buy a new computer every 3 years. I also lease a new car every 3 years. They are business tools. As long they help me make money I am happy.

Got to admit, I don't like this thread. Anyone who buys something that is expensive and doesn't look forward to it or just accepts it to me, is a spoilt brat.
IMO the 2019 MacBook Pro is exceptional. I own a MacBook and one iPhone that I use 24/7 to run my own marketing business and travel the world doing so.
Travelling the world along with simply walking in UK cities and seeing how many people including children are homeless really makes you come down to earth.
The other 50% need to stop being so materialistic and taking things for granted and start appreciating things in life.
Maybe if people did not buy so much, they may start appreciating the few products that they do have. From reading forums, the most miserable people in life seem to be the materialistic ones. None of them are satisfied in themselves and buy these factory made things to compensate.

Can you define what a spoilt brat is? Lmao.

The OP is not acting ‘spoiled’. He’s just expressing that in the past, upgrading was a really exciting experience and this time around it was less so. I can totally relate to what he’s saying.

I think more than anything the reason for this lack of excitement is the small amount of overall attention to the Mac platform the last several years. Apple is trying to change this with the upcoming 16 inch MBP, and following releases will likely be very similar to what’s unveiled here shortly, so it seems that we’re headed in a different direction (i.e. new keyboard), whether or not it’s better or not remains to be seen. But there’s a chance!

OP will not be a happy camper. To get a truly honest OP thinking about computers, you should read all the posts on the “Alternatives to Mac Hardware“ he has made.. very confused about what he may finally purchase. o_O Goes back a few years.

I was very excited with the 2016 design I waited a few hard years for a new redesign and in 2019 I still love this design. I had a 2016 and now a 2019 and I love them. Not sure what you're expecting for a new redesign as I think that's why you are lacking excitement? Seems like most people get excited over new hardware design over anything nowadays. I don't see what else apple can do to improve upon this design besides a slimmer bezel screen. Thickness wise I doubt we will see a thicker MacBook Pro and possibly a little thinner. I don't see apple going back up in thickness like they did the phones.

The MBP hasn't fundamentally changed since 2008. It's faster and that's about it. Sure, there's a better and brighter screen and it's lighter, but...meh.

Laptops overall are a very mature market so I don't think anyone is "spoiled" by not being excited. It's a freaking replaceable tool used to get a job done at this point.

You don't need to love it or hate it. You just need to be able to use it.

I believe this is a good sign.... ASUS? Are you kidding? That excitement would wear off fast and you would miss OSX!

While I likely won't be buying as a I just bought a 2019 15" MacBook Pro base model, I am truly excited about the 16"

I haven't been this excited for an Apple product in awhile.

That being said, who here has been waiting for this machine and is upgrading to it?

Please mention what computer you're upgrading from!
