I disagree from a bit of an odd perspective. Apple does do this when it comes to their Pro lineup recently. iPad PRO (distinct change from curved), Mac Pro (distinct change from can). In fact, their most recent change to a Pro device was a complete 180 (back to the tower link form factor).

My hypothesis remains that the Pro will evolve into something very different than the MB or MBA... it will be quite more expensive, possibly modular, and perhaps a reboot towards the true Pro ideals.

You're talking design change, which could most definitely happen. But Apple isn't going to make a thicker laptop with all of the ports that the previous models had. It would be admitting to a mistake, and that does not happen. The likeliness of them doing that is about as likely as them adding a headphone jack back to their phones.

Recently sold my loaded i9 15" MBP to get maximum resale value.

Yes, I am anxiously awaiting the new 16" model. The rumored improved keyboard was the biggest selling point.

Why would you think a new keyboard would be better? Even if it is a scissor mechanism with glass fiber instead of springs, these are the same people that thought the butterfly keyboard was a great idea. And remember this will be version 1. Apple seems to take 3 or 4 versions (ex. 2012 MBP 13" classic and 2015 MBP) to get the best out a design and V1 always has the most shortcomings.

That is exactly what I think. In fact I think scissors mechanism may prove to be even worse than butterfly since I don't believe they are willing to increase thickness of the machines and it is very hard to get longer key travel otherwise, unless making some other trade off internally (like smaller battery or similar). So if they end up just replacing the butterfly with scissors but still have the same short key travel it may be even more unreliable as it is. I don't think the root cause for the problem is the butterfly mechanism, it is the short key travel. Basically in scissor mechanism there are even more places where debris can enter to jam the mechanism than in butterfly.

Scissor and butterfly are simply the key support mechanism that allows pressing the key at any corner with the same fluidity as when hitting it in the middle. Actual switch that register keypress is more or less ordinary rubber dome switch.

The massive 2016 price increase of the 15" mbp, the butterfly keyboard, the dongle-tastic ports and the pathetically tiny ssd base sizes made the mbp a rotten egg. I've been waiting and hoping that Apple would re-introduce some sanity and a price reduction. Love my late 2011 £1550 15" mbp which I upgraded myself with an ssd and 16gb ram, but it won't last forever - it's already had the discrete AMD gfx chip replaced twice.
Here's hoping for a new CEO - £2800 for the new 15" with 512GB hard drive is absolutely ridiculous.
