With the release of the MacBook Pro 16”, I am finally tempted to upgrade from my MBP Mid-2015. The keyboard’s durability was my biggest concern, that and butterfly wasn’t my favorite.

I’m losing ports but USB-C is becoming standard in my workflow now so not a big loss. I can deal with a dongle for the occasional legacy port.

I also want a nice upgrade from my Iris Pro, I figured the 5500M 8gb would suffice for that. :)

Anyone else planning to jump? Why or why not?

2011 to the base i9, but im constantly hovering over the cancel button. No wifi 6, one review mentioned the screen was noticeably worse than the 15" 2019 model (only got 400 nits), the fan noise during "idle" post, maybe still T2 reboot issues, running hot having external screens attached, pop'ing speakers when pause /unpausing sound / closing tabs with sound or scrubbing in fcpx.

Eventually, really in no big hurry as my 2015 is going great other than being tight on storage now. I prefer a machine from later in the cycle anyway (when any initial manufacturing kinks should have been worked out) so happy to sit back for a few months, let it all bed in, and see how others find it, and then jump over in the new year :)

I think the 2020 is the one to get, now that the keyboard issues are gone (I think).

Or get it when the 2020 comes out and paid for it 500 dls less than now.

Yeah I did, finally. I had tried twice to jump to the newer models, first in 2017 and then again in 2018, but I just didn't find them compelling reasons to get rid of my beloved 2015.

When I got a chance to use the new keyboard and saw the improvement in this model I was fully on board. I don't think the beautiful screen this new model has gets enough credit. I think people just kind of take for granted how nice Apple's screens are, and this new model is no exception but with even more space.

My 2015 was starting to slow down a bit and the fan was running pretty hard. I wiped it clean and shipped it off the day after my 16" arrived and I won't look back this time.

Small side note: I do miss the glowing logo. I know its a meaningless thing but it was one of those iconic Apple designs that I wish they didn't take away.

Still got my base 2015 15". Typing on it right now, actually. Keyboard's nice, screen's beautiful, and running Mojave, it's fast and fluid. Although the 16" is very very nice, I'm still on the fence as to whether I want to upgrade or not. $2400 is a lot to spend on a computer that's only marginally going to get me a better computing experience, if any at all. I'm a writer, so I don't need balls-to-the-wall computing power. Just need a nice screen and decent keyboard. Got both of those in my 2015. But my credit card is always on standby, so you never know.

I had no issues adjusting to USB-C when I upgraded from the 2015 15". Being able to use any port for any data or power is really nice. I usually carry just one data cable and it supports USB-A, C, and micro. I also a dongle, but have not used it lately since I can connect my camera with the cable.

Now upgrading from a 2018 15" to a 16" for more power and SSD size. I have a 1TB with 32 GB model on order.

I was planning to, but, over the weekend, I asked myself why? I'm planning on selling my 2015 which I use for work and keeping my 2014 for now. I will use my work-issued 2015 instead. I would like a 2019 16 but it's hard for me to come up with a justification for buying it other than I want one.

One thing that I have noticed is that the 2015's resale value has taken a nosedive since the 16 was introduced. A 2015 that was advertised at $1,500 a month ago is now being advertised for $1,000. And I doubt that there will be takers. This is a 2.8 Ghz system and those had been hard to come by.

So, from a practical perspective, I can in no way justify upgrading. Money isn't the issue as I'm sitting on a $20K short-term trading profit on Apple stock. I just don't care to spend money if I don't need to.

For those citing the $2,400 price - remember that you will probably be able to get $800 - $1,000 for your current system.

Sell My Mac says my early 2015 is worth $300 to them. I assume selling privately would fetch more, but $500 more? Doubt it.

This is Craigslist in New England. You have to do more work to sell on Craigslist.

With Craigslist, you have to screen prospective buyers (there are buyer scams), show the machine and sometimes you have to show it a few times if your price isn't right.

The places that buy them from you typically provide a warranty which means that they have to buy it from you for a very low price in case there's an issue that they have to deal with.

I was about to pull the trigger, but like some here, I'm on pause because my 2015 runs great, so why? And keep in mind, I push this thing to the limits, editing RAW video, half-gig Photoshop files... but still, I really have few complaints about the performance. And I LOOOOOVE Mag-Safe (2 kids and many pets).

I mean, I'm GONNA get it. But maybe not today (clinging to beloved 2015...)
