Cool!

EDIT: Something new! iPod touch and other iPods will be released on:
9th of September 2010!!! Why? Because 'Buy a Mac and get a free iPod touch' ends on this date. Last year it ended on 9/8 2009 and new iPods were released on this date!!!

I suspect this as well. As for GPS, yes it will kill every GPS competitor out there because the iPod touch will do tons of more things as well. But I just don't see it coming this year.

Was GPS ever a plausible addition to the features list? There had better be at least 4 or 5 new features to make up for last years pathetic release.

I don't see it kill the standalone GPS. Not only they can have bigger screens (4.3" anyone?) but also better sensitivity (high-quality antennas and chips, WAAS compatibility).

The iPhone would anyways have killed the GPS if it had to. ;)

Well at least we know a new touch is coming for sure now, not that it wasn't predictable but this gives at least some credit to the rumors.

I think we will get at least a few more ipod touches before they evolve into the next phase. Like how the classic evolved into the touch (more or less).

What?

Isn't that the case? The ipod as it was has evolved into the touch and the older style is fading out. In a year or two, won't the classic stop being sold and updated by Apple? Then it would only be the ipod touch (with nano and shuffle filling their roles as well). Eventually won't a new technology come along and replace the touch?

I also posted a similar question on another thread, so please forgive me.

Do you think they'll drop the 8 gig iPod Touch with the new releases? Is that why they are lowering the price?

I only ask because my wife and I have considered buy a couple twice this month. What is the general consensus - wait until the new releases, or snatch these up?

And, any thoughts on the base model's price?

Essentially, we're looking to upgrade our current 1st and 2nd gen. Nanos, and have access to the wi-fi feature for texting and email.

Whats most likely to happen is that Apple will make their baseline model the 16gb, and they will probably drop the 8gb as it is just too little space nowadays. The models in theory will be 16, 32, 64gbs.. and MAYBE a 128gb which is highly unlikely. And if they did make a 128gb it would be more along the lines of $600+ :p
