A while ago -- maybe a year or so -- I recall seeing an article posted somewhere that one or two gas stations somewhere in California were testing the use of Apple Pay at the pump. Anyone have any updates on this, particularly on expansion? Or, did this just go nowhere? Too expensive to retrofit pumps with the technology? I've never even seen a pump that accepted a chip (EMV), either; only the magnetic strip. There's been a notable uptick of news stories even within my own city (Austin, TX) regarding the installation of credit card skimmers. Apple Pay at the pump would seem to be a great fit to thwart these criminals. I've had to resort -- I know, first world problem -- ensuring I get cash at a (arguably) more secure bank ATM first and then going inside a gas/convenience store to pre-pay before fill up. I'm using cash because there've even been stories of terminals being compromised inside the stores too. Credit card protections to consumers aside, it can still be a hassle to have one's card compromised, get a new one, update accounts where you use automatic-payments against the card, etc.
