A minor urk is when you close Safari and then re-open it later, it seems to reposition itself at the top left. Not always, but sometimes.

Safari slower

I agree with original poster...Safari is slower. Why does each page have to have a loader bar across the top of panel? It is definitely slower on my 2011 iMac, i7, 8GB machine. It is annoying

Strange. Safari became noticeably faster moving from Lion to Mountain Lion on the latest MBP Retina hardware. I used Lion on the Retnia for 3 weeks.. Enough time to notice the difference. Frankly, it's dramatic. As fast or faster than chrome now depending in JavaScript. They render differently, and even when equal via stopwatch, the safari rendering subjectively seems faster to me.

Why not clearly faster on all recent Macs? 4-core needed? Certain GPU needed?

I'm having this problem too. Safari is slow for me. Also app store is very slow to load. I'm on a retina.

If I had this problem, I'd reformat the drive, install fresh mountain lion, then restore from time machine per-ML.

Yep me too, upgraded from Lion to ML and Safari is definitely "laggy". Starts off quick then the blue scroll bar really hesitates in the middle before finally loading. 2011 i5 iMac with 8gig of RAM and loads of HD space. Chrome is much the faster of the two. I would say without hesitation Safari was quicker under Lion - extensions NONE.

Exactly the same symptoms. Loading a new page starts off quickly then the blue scroll bar slows down mid-load, then completes. I downloaded Chrome which is MUCH quicker, however one of the tradeoffs is that the text on Safari web pages is darker and crisper then Chrome. I compared many web pages side by side and Safari is better without a doubt. On the other hand, Chrome favorites on the Chrome toolbar are easier to organize and get to then Safari. But once again, text on favorites listings is darker and crisper on Safari vice Chrome. Bottom line, neither one has it all, but Apple really pisses me off that they took an efficient, quick-loading browser and f--ked it up.

Same issues

I'm having the same issues with Safari on my 2009 macbook pro with 8GB ram and Sammy 830 SSD, I actually bought the ssd for the upgrade and did a fresh install and everything else is almost instant, I find 2 things are happening with Safari, the first as others have said there seems to be a big lag when loading webpages, I was trying to book flights last night and it was timing out, I thought it might be my connection so I tested it on my HTPC connected to the TV in the lounge and it had no issues. Also when I use the address bar for google searches i have to click on it a couple of times and keep pressing enter before it does the search.

When I first upgraded to ML on my new rMBP, Safari was blazingly fast. Then when installed the power nap upgrade it went to blazingly slow. I can live without power nap - wish there was someway to uninstall that upgrade.

Please folks, do post the country or region from where you access the web, maybe that's related somehow.

For me (Germany), Safari 6.0 is SIGNIFICANTLY slower than before (50MB dl, 10 MB ul), even if I try parallel on 2 Macs - 1 under Mountain Lion, 1 under Lion, Lion wins by far...

There's no change in the configuration, all use the same router/network, and all machines are wired (just to be sure)...

Safari 6 on ML for me is veeeeery fast compared to Safari 5.x on Lion. In my country I only have access to 1MB/down connection, and even then it's very fast.

I have put it on my new MBP retina 2.7/16gb also my MPP from last year,
3 fully loaded desktops and 1 macbook air it seems slow on all of them.
I tested my internet connection and the download speed is 64Mb/s

It's much faster on all my machines now. Stop pronning your computers, lol. :D

Ah... what I just found out is, that the ML update seemed to change my Energy Saver preference (go to Apple Menu->Preferences->Energy saving) from 'Higher performance' to 'Better Battery Life'. Now I changed that back to 'Higher Performance' an guess what? Safari is quick again...

Well I'm using an iMac so battery life isn't applicable - UK location BTW on a steady 7.5 Mbps connection.

Upgarded all my macs last night and it seems Safari is much slower
to load pages than before? Compared to canary chrome it seems at least 3x slower?

3x slower is an understatement for me. It is unusable.

Same problem in Germany.
A lot of websites start to load and stopping after 1/3 (blue loader bar in Safari). It seems strange to me.

Updated the new MBA of my girlfriend to ML and some days later she noticed that Chrome is slower than before. So she used Safari and it was the same. I use her MBA sometimes and yes, it IS slower.

We tried it on two different WLAN networks; My 2010 MBP still running Lion and its really faster, with Safari, Chrome and Firefox; My Windows PC is also faster.
On one of the networks its sometimes faster, but not as good as before.

I actually find Safari in 10.8 to be faster than earlier versions, but....

.... what I really miss is the removal of the "Activity" window. This seems to have been intentional on Apple's part, to reduce or elminate the user's ability to "grab" music and video files from various web pages.

What this portends is Apple's intent to gradually remove "capabilities" from Safari, with the goal of making it more "iOS-like" -- no longer "the power to be your best", but soon-to-become "all the power we LET you have"....

Since updating to Mountain Lion, Safari on my 2011 MacBook Pro is extremely fast. This holds true whether I connect on the home WiFi or in places like Starbuck's, McDonald's, Panera and even at the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels where I work.
