Still waiting for HP to get off there ars and release their webOS tablet. Nice to see allot of players coming out with tablets. Keeps the innovation going.

As of yet, the RIM playbook looks promising but directed at business, any android tablets out there already are kidding themselves, ANDROID IS NOT READY FOR TABLETS, barely for phones, windows 7 should not be dismissed, the exoPC looks pretty good, Android 3.0 looks great, probably enough to draw my attention away from ios. Apple is going to have to innovate, nothing new for them though! :D

Can you say what looks great about it exactly?

Watching Andy Rubin demo it to Mossberg and what's-her-name at All Things D left me extremely underwhelmed. All that was missing was the flop-sweat.

So far the pre CES announcements look like nothing is ready to compete with even the iPad 1?

Asus has a couple of interesting but expensive win7 devices but they would not impact the iPad vs others race.

Have I missed anything?

It'll be interesting to see what kind of tablets with webOS that HP reveals next month. Hopefully hey'll go with a ten inch screen in the same format as the iPad (as opposed to widescreen).

Other than that...the Playbook could be interesting, if they too would do a ten inch version with iPad screen format, and add in native apps.

These are probably the ones I would consider besides an iPad. I'd also love it if Nokia would release a MeeGo tablet. Not really interested in Android or a desktop OS (ie Windows 7).

The 8" Vizio Tablet looks interesting.

Nice that it has an IR blaster included. A lot of people still have IR remote controlled gear all around their home, which is where many of these tablets are mostly used.

THIS is what i'm hoping IP2 gets... if it gets an IR remote, then it makes it so much more valuable. No more $200 harnmoney one remotes. Makes the ipad price seem even better then.

I did suggest this, or rather pointed out on these forums than an IR transmitter would be a brilliant thing. Probably cost all of 50 cents to fit and allow anyone to write remote control apps for all the items around their home that use IR, which are today, most items.

I was shouted down and told that IR is old tech, not many people use it, and a waste of time :(

Companies have been making Windows tablets for the past 10 years.

Why do you think MS killed the Courior ?

And what's the deal with the HP Slate?

Desk top Windows on an Atom processor. Wonderful. Hey, at least it plays Flash right ?

Why don't they try a Win MOBILE 7 tablet ? That would be something to shoot for.

The Motorola Tablet looks interesting running Honeycomb OS for Android.

Announcement planned for Jan 5th.

I'm interested to see what all comes out of CES. Androids Honeycomb OS for tablets doesn't sound like it going to be ready until summer this year so maybe a while for a few tablets to show up. I am waiting for another tablet to provide a better UI experience than the iPad. Currently i don't find anything out there unless a recent release such as the Archos 101 or some other I haven't heard about is out. Galaxy Tab, Archos and a few no name branded tablets I've messed with all are slow, laggy and feel way to cheap to consider for myself.

Love em or hate em, Apple has set the bar pretty damn high with the iPad. The recent iOS update with printing, their version of "multitasking" and the fact the huge developer base that continues to push out content, it's going to take a pretty kick ass tablet to impress me.

I've got so much Apple gear I'm just looking for a change of pace. At some point one of the other tablets will be comparable to the ipad and It will probably run the Android OS. The Toshiba Tablet looks promising.

This is more of a preview for Google maps and gmail, but I like the way the one guy references Apple and the way the lady trys to handle the tablet and is denied.

Yeah...what was THAT about? And then when he finally let her hold it for a sec, he pulled it back and said he didn't want her to fall into "traps." Sounds glitchy...though he DID say it was a work in progress.

Not impressed.

Eventually, these same developments will be extended to iPad.

What other tablets are you guys looking to buy or can't wait to get your hands on? Please discuss.

I am not a fanboy of any particular company. I simply want a product that can perform without lag and provide a revolutionary UI. So far, I haven't found any product that comes even close to the iPad in those categories. If company X comes out with something that's faster, better, provides extra features without limiting on basic functionality - then I'm sold. I, and I'm sure others like me as well, only care about two things: efficiency and productivity; tablets that lag cut down on efficiency and tablets that provide excessive yet unnecessary features cut down on productivity. As far as I'm concerned, I could care less about a camera, a SD slot, USB port, and flash - which (at least for me) would only hog on memory and fill up screen estate with more ads.

As a Android phone (HTC EVO) user I have no interest in an android tablet. While there some pretty cool apps it's like a crapshoot if you're going to download one that will decimate your battery.

I'm not sure if it's HTML5 or what but there isn't much that I can't see on my iPad now compared to my older version iPod touch. Flash on the EVO is just a vehicle for battery sucking advertisements as well.

I bought my iPad in December knowing full well that the next generation was just around the corner but with 4 vacations in 4 months Jan-Feb-Mar-Apr that I wanted to have it for and will sell this one at a loss and upgrade to the next generation once it debuts. I like many others consider the money lost in the upgrade a rental fee which I'm willing to pay because it's THAT good.

I don't feel beholden to Apple. I don't really like the closed system and would prefer something that can just freely exchange files and software with other computers without having to jump through hoops. So I'd guess that eventually my next tablet will be a non-apple product.

I'm not in any rush at the moment though. I'd want to give a good year for all of the other companies to shake out their own designs and see what really holds up in reviews and the market.

One that has caught my eye at CES is the Asus Eee EP121. The key thing that I like about it is that it has a Wacom digitizer, which means that it'll allow high detail styluses to be used on the screen, and not these crayon like things we use for the iPad. With a real stylus you could get the kind of detailed writing and sketching out of the device that I'd really like to be able to do.

I'm not blown away by the Asus. There is no mention of the battery life, and the cost isn't thrilling, but it has the technical power that I'd eventually desire out of a tablet.

The one thing that is disapointing so far to see with everything coming out is that, aside from the iPad, everything is 16:9 in screen format. While I've watched a movie now and again on the iPad, it isn't the main point for using it to me and I'd like a form factor that fits better with document dimensions.

The notion ink adam looks solid. It's the only device that I would even consider other than the iPad.

However, the company does not have any other devices and this is their first version of it so the build quality, tech support along with other concerns that go with new companies are a bit of a turn off...

http://www.notionink.com/

Yeah, a lot of us at my company are waiting to see the Notion Ink Adam. They have gone to great lengths to make sure this thing is "perfect". Sounds like they have even customized the currect version of Android to get it ready for tablets. That said, I'm anxious to SEE it, not BUY it. My experience with the Droid phone has been nothing but bugs. So, I'm not interested in Android until they work on their stability, a lot more.
