lol. I am IT engineer, I know all those but my job is also need to make sure none tech people easier understand those tech thing easily.

If people can understand the difference in speed of their car going 80km/h or 120km/h, they can understand the difference between a 10Gbps cable and an 18 Gbps cable.

That's a big IF. I would introduce you to some high school students I know... :D

A train goes at an average speed of 120 km/h. The distance between City A and City B is 300km. How long does it take to go from A to B?

It is confusing for some. This is probably why some people get conned into paying £80 for a cable where a £4 will provide exactly the same service. When people advocate an expensive cable they should state it is because it is a special blue or something but the cheaper cable will still deliver exactly the same results.

Edit 1. There are shops that will try to sell you the expensive cable stating it is better when it is not required. Snake oil.

Edit 2. I should add that if the Ultra specification pops up in a sale the same price as the High or Premium then I would probably buy it. That is my choice.

Would you also extend this statement to cheap chinese cables, off of alibaba (some of them cost $0,40 ex factory!), for example?

What I want to say is that everything more expensive than the baseline is not necessarily because of the greed or margins. Some cables are cheap for a reason (materials, shielding, connectors, machining and manufacturing tolerances etc).

Just bought two HDMI cables from Monoprice....neither a any good....This has been going on far too long..the Chinese Mfg do not believe in quality control...its bad for new business....the price of retuning these two would exceed the price of postage to do so....I get nothing out of one and no audio out of the other.
If you apple tv has a problem...replace the HDMI cable & that may do it...if its not from monoprice.

I only use cables from a company called Blue Jeans cable. They have an HDMI cable that is made here in the USA. I have had one in my wall for my main TV for 9 years. No issues whatsoever. I also use them for connecting my AppleTV and Blue Ray player to my AVR. I have never had one of their cables go bad.

Have to disagree.

It is not required with HDMI, less costly will deliver exactly the same results. It is over priced for peoples requirements.

If you want to go and waste money then carry on and buy the Apple recommended. It is a free world.

Cables are different. You get what you paid for up to a point.

Messing up quoting.
However, yep, alluded to that earlier but past a certain point (in signal delivery) it's not required for the more expensive versions of cables.
What you buy though is up to you.

Honestly these days I take labels with a grain of salt. EVERYTHING comes from China, and vendors, u hope they QA every batch that they receive, but I am not that trusting.

Recall Lumber Liquidator's scandal, flooring labeled as certified blah-blah, got bad chemicals that made people sick.
