Came from a 9000 and am missing the keyboard in a big way. I am not nearly as efficient with the iPhone's keyboard. Processing email is not as polished IMO.

Browsing and other 'fun' stuff on the iPhone are miles ahead of the Bold.

Jailbreaking has solved the shortcomings I perceived with notifications, and a 'Today' type home screen.

Was I clear that I still hated it?
This would be my third time back. Obviously there is something about it I like, I'm just thinking they will improve the little things based on numerous requests to them. Like I said I'm not so crazy about notifications as I'm sure apple will get it right sooner or later with the notifications concept.

I'll tell you what I like for sure:
1. The design
2. The display
3. The HD video camera
4. The photos out of this arent bad either.
5. The browser is pretty nice, even blackberry's browser with os6 cant touch the iphone's browser. I already returned a bb 9800.
6. The apps, they have some useful/fun ones. While some may call these apps a novelty, they are still entertaining.
7. Last but not least for me is, jailbreaking of course for customizations. Sooner or later, apple will realize being completely closed isnt a good thing as I'm sure they'll fall behind android in the smartphone market.

Those reasons alone put the iphone in front of blackberry imo. The blackberry email/notification excuse is getting long in the tooth and its hard to defend blackberry with these little features and lack of innovation.

Switched from a Storm on Verizon to the 3GS on AT&T. Best decision I ever made when it comes to cell phones. Now a proud owner of the iPhone 4.

Have you tried swype for iphone, I believe the app in the appstore is shapewriter and if its anything like the swype I used on my android then it will be an awsome transition. Its just so easy to swype around. I didnt miss my physical keyboard at all with this.

Went from 9000 to iPhone 3G two years ago and haven't looked back. Upgraded to 3GS last year and iPhone 4 a couple months ago. Best move I ever made.

As others have mentioned, the major thing you'll miss from BB is the notifications. To be honest, I didn't miss them much. I always kept the phone in my pocket so the LED was no use to me anyway. I got used to the virtual keyboard in a couple of days and now I probably type faster on it.

As for whether i4 is significantly better than previous models, yes it is, including much better battery life, which the BB fans used to put over us as their major trump card. Email via Exchange is close enough to BES and better than BIS if you need sync and folders.

I did switched, started with BlackBerry 9000 and upgraded to 9700. I only had for 6 months and sold it for iPhone 4.

I'm loving my 32GB i4 but I NEVER had Dropped Calls before, in fact it just happened a few minutes ago. Is this Apple or Rogers? Also, this GMail Push/whatever you call it is a PITA and annoying back with Berry I got my Messages even before OSX/Mail, now I have to sign-in to GMail to get it.

The Torch is set to be released on September 24th up here and I don't know if I want to go back.

Switching to an iPhone 4 from a Curve 8310, I miss the physical keyboard, LED notification, vast notification options, "notification bar" (as opposed to popups that disappear, or numbers slapped over icons when I can't always see the app list), and battery life.

That being said, I would never go back.

I agree with this so much!

I've had the BB Storm 2 and BB Bold 9700 before finally moving over to the iPhone.

I love my iPhone! Although I dropped it today and scuffed the edge abit :(

I moved from the BB tour to the iPhone 4. Best move I've made since switching from a flip phone to blackberry 4 years ago.

You should set up Gmail as an Exchange account, not as Gmail. That will work siar to what you got with BB. You can also sync multiple folders with Exchange like with BES.

Wait you miss the GPS on the Verizon network? You do realize that GPS is its own network of satellites which is independent of any carrier?

DUH! You are a very helpful person. Thank you for teaching me this important lesson.

Just made the switch couple days ago and i love it does take some time gettong fluent with the iphone touch keyboard but it dosent take anything away from the excitement/experiance of owning the ip4

P.s i typed this and surfed using the iphone 4 :)

As others have pointed out, you got gmail set up wrong. You need to follow this to get the same exact push email as on the BB (and believe me, it's the same push service as on the BB - it's great):

I had the 8830WE and 9630 (Tour), and have no regrets whatsoever about switching to the iPhone. Web browsing is far, far better and easier on the iPhone, and I actually find the virtual keyboard easier, faster and more accurate than the cramped little physical kb on the Blackberries.

Notifications....I hated, hated, HATED the flashing LED on the BB's. It takes nothing for me to push the home button and look at my lock screen to see if I have any missed calls or texts. The lack of customization for SMS tones on the iPhone doesn't bother me near as much as it apparently does some people - I can barely classify it as even a minor annoyance.

As already stated, GMail can be set up for push - again, never been an issue for me. In fact, I keep push turned off and check my e-mail manually when I want to check it and have the time.

The antenna and (supposed) fragility issues with the iPhone have never bothered me and never will. I have always uses cases for my smartphones, be it Blackberry, iPhone or otherwise.

based on this list and your other post. I stand by what I said that the iPhone more than likely is not for you.

I would say go look at AT&T Galaxy S phone (Captivate) and get that. That should give you the customization that you want with out fear of losing you jail break and the mess in trying to get a patch update fixed.

And with the Androidcenteral.com one click wonder machine you can easily install any app you want on the phone weather or not it is in the Android store.

Switched from BB9700 to iPhone 4. So far very satisfied! Although I still miss BBM, the LED light and the notification system.

Neah.. Iphone 4 is better than any other phone.
That's strictly opinion, if your like me and have owned Blackberries, Android and all versions of iPhone you can see that all platforms are lacking in one way or another. One of iPhone's biggest short coming is background notifications which Blackberry, Android and Web OS have completely mastered. Apple is taking baby steps in improving iPhone while others take enormous strides. Iphone 4 is a great device and surpasses it's competitors in many areas but it does fall short as well. (objective opinion)

I loved my 9700 and I too don't like having to check my iPhone constantly to see if I got a call, messages or email The great thing about Blackberry and other devices with great notification systems is the ability to have visual and audible alerts so one doesn't miss or have to guess if they got a call, message or email. Yes I know many will say "just pick it up and look" but thats not the case its about a proper notification system which iPhone is seriously lacking in.

Had the Bold 9000, used it for 3 months, then got a Bold 9700 the day that released and stopped after about 1 month and a half. I had thought the grass was greener and had the Blackberries operating on a second line, with my main phone was a 3GS. Both 9000 and 9700 are rotting in a drawer. I don't miss anything from the Blackberries namely because my iPhone 4 is jailbroken and customized by myself up the wazoo. Get PingChat2 and/or Whatsapp if you miss BBM. JB+Notified+Notified fix+LockInfo for all your immediate notification/lockscreen summary needs. I had to throw away several hundred bucks to learn first hand that the iPhones are still better than the Blackberries.

If you're looking to get rid of those blackberries let me know, I'll take them off your hands for a fair sum :)

Well I picked it up last night and I like it so far :)

I dont think I can return to the dull blackberry anymore. I tried their latest and greatest and everytime I look at the iphone 4's screen I cant believe the difference. I can say this much, if iphone 5 comes out with the corrected issues some people are claiming(I havent dropped a call once, then again I'm using a case), and if they redo their notification system and just maybe add a little led light then they will so make it easier for blackberry folks to come over. Right now, I'm sort of missing the led alert. Then again there were so many emails/text messages I wish I wasnt alerted about and it could get annoying as well. Other than that, the apps are better. I honestly dont think jailbreaking is necessary anymore. I personally will though, just to see if apps like lockinfo ease the notification issue. I havent played with the camera/video yet but will today.

Overall I'm happy with the phone, no regrets and thats wierd. I think as a smart phone user for years my needs have changed a bit. Screen resolution, quality build/apps, and ui speed has made its way to the top of my list and iphone kept beating the other phones I've tried. I just hope they keep improving and they need to listen to the public. Improve your notification system Apple!

From a list of things that he likes about the iPhone you get that the iPhone is not for him??? What kind of logic is that?

the fact that in the OP he returned his first iPhone siting complaints about piss poor notification system and lack of customization.

Both of which have not really changed. He returned it because of those reasons it will happen again. The grass is not always greener. Hence the reason I think Android is more of a fit for the OP than the iPhone. Between iOS, Android and Blackberry. I think iOS should be on the bottom for a good fit for him because of what he complained about it.

Read up as my priorities have changed :D

But thanks for your concern and advice.

Also one huge thing that the iPhone has over BB is OS updates from Apple. In my 5-6 years of owning BB's I never even took updates seriously, i'd always get the newest one but its not like anything was new. In my 2 years of owning my 9000, I dont think I had ANY updates after a few months.

After owning my iPhone 4 for only a few months, its already seen a few updates, with some being major and adding new features. This is a very different world from BB's which almost never see updates. I have a bunch of freinds hoping to get 6.0, my 9000 didnt even get 5.0
