I ordered the 42mm aluminum sport right when preorders opened and received it on launch day. My thinking was that it was the first gen, I might as well get the cheapest version.

About 5 days later, I realized I was afraid of rubbing the watch against anything for fear that the screen would scratch. I also realized that stylistically, my instincts about preferring the aluminum were wrong and that I should have gone for the stainless steel.

That day, I placed an order for the 42mm stainless steel. The 6th day, the watch was on Craigslist and that night I sold it. I made enough profit on that that I'm getting the SS for $60 more than I paid for the Sport, making it a no brainier.

I know many people are incredibly happy with the Sport, and that's awesome. I realized after a few days that I should not have cheaped out, and am anxiously awaiting my SS Apple Watch.

I went through that exact process. I thought the Sport would be perfect for a first gen device. But I got too paranoid about scratches and dings. Now I have the SS.

What band did you get with the SS? How do you like it?

I can't understand the need some SS wearers have to rubbish the sport to make them feel better about their choice.

Sports look nothing like "toys". They are, however, the entry level model. I would expect the considerably more expensive SS model to look like the more expensive model. If that's what you look for then go for it.

But the sport looks great. And being lighter it's got it's definite role to play

Love my Sport and am happy with my decision. After visiting the Apple store and seeing the SS in person I am even happier with my choice. The SS is too shiny for me. I love the aluminum finish as it matches my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 6. In the end they are all gadgets not fine watches and a shiny case isn't going to make it any more of a fine watch.

I bought this watch as a companion to my phone and to utilize during workouts. As cool and useful as it is it is not a fine timepiece whether it's gold, ss, or aluminum.

Everyone has their opinions about the different finishes, they all look nice to me I just prefer the sport and am glad I was able to save some money as well. Only downfall I can see with the sport is not having the sapphire crystal but after a month of hard use I still have no scratches or cracks.

I went with the black sports band. It's very comfortable, much more so than anticipated. I was eyeing the classic buckle as a second band, but the Sport is just too good. I ended up ordering a white sports band as a second band, which still has not been delivered.

As for the SS, I am a lot less paranoid than I was with the Sport, and I quite like the shiny look over the matte space grey. It breaks up the monotony of all the black.

I'm with you on the case look. I like the SG aluminum but I love the shiny SS. Also unlike many, I expect to keep this watch for a number of years (say 3-5 years). I know it's not a "future heirloom" like a Rolex, but unlike the iPhone I don't see why I'd want to keep upgrading my watch. The things that compel us to upgrade iPhones often (better camera, faster CPU for editing movies and such, etc.) aren't issues on the watch. And I'm not really wanting an on-board cell chip or GPS. Not a priority for me. So there is some drive on my part to go for a watch that's good for all occasions and I'll be happy with for a while.

All that said, I do like the watch that I have and could convince myself to just stick with it.

Part of me wants the SB SS with SB link but went with the sport. Never wore a watch before so having a year or so trial run to make sure I use and like it. If I continue to enjoy and use it as much as I have so far I will upgrade when gen2 comes out and has new shiny features and hardware.

That was part of my thinking when I went that way on my initial order.

But then I started eyeballing the SS. I would sit in work meetings and notice everyone else with their shiny SS (traditional) watches.

Then last weekend I did some try-ons with my wife (she is thinking of getting a Sport). She did not understand why someone would pay hundreds more for a SS. So I resolved to let it go and enjoy my Sport. But then the next day she noted that our 10 year anniversary is coming up and maybe I should get the SS as her gift to me (and I'd get her a Sport).

Now here I am dwelling on the choice again. And whether to eBay the Sport before it's too late, and do without for a few weeks until the SS arrives.

I bought the SGS 42mm and just sold it today for a decent profit (note: I've never "scalped" a product in my life before, but saw the opportunity out there as opposed to returning it to Apple. If I hadn't found a buyer, I would have returned it no worries).

Anyway, I loved my Sport but within a day of owning it I decided that *because* I was enjoying the Apple Watch so much, it was worth it to me to "upgrade" to a SS with Milanese loop, which I fell in love with during the try on appointment. So in that sense, I did somewhat regret the Sport when I tried the SS. I still think that the Sport is awesome (and much better bang for buck), but I quickly realized that being a watch guy, I wanted something a bit more 'premium' on my wrist every day.

On the downside, I am now stuck in processing hell and waiting for my SS Milanese, although I have already received a White Sport Band to complement it when it arrives.

Final thought... When I packaged up my Sport in order to resell it, I soon realized that I missed wearing an Apple Watch.

Ive had my sport for almost a week and so far I wouldn't exchange it for a SS so no. I prefer the weight and look. Black looks good and can be worn in casual or semi-casual setting and still look nice.

Nonsense! Trust me you're also an Apple Fan. When everyone is talking about AW2 next year (with some killer feature) - you will WANT it too!

None. I've had my watch since launch day so over a month and it's help up very well. The ability to change bands really negates the need for the stainless steel version now. I've got my pink and white sports bands and my Milanese loop. I'll order the modern pink buckle when it is available and then I'll be set. :D

Next gen I'll go for the SS but for now the sports is just fine. They all do the same thing anyway and you cons customise the look with bands.

I own a 42mm SG Sport and am delighted with it. I didn't "cheap out" as money was in no way a part of my decision. In fact, I tried on the 42mm SS first with NO intent of purchasing the sport version, until I tried on the SG sport and immediately changed my mind as it was much lighter and the subtleness of the grey aluminum appealed to me over the intense shine of the SS. Fuethmore, I believe that the benefits of the sapphire face have been overblown. Add to the fact that the SS is a fingerprint magnet which attracts micro scratches easily. At the end of the day, it's a personal decision, nothing more. I have no regrets purchasing the sport over the SS.

Finaly, keep in mind that this will not become an heirloom that you will be passing down to your children. It is wearable tech first and jewelry second. A Rolex will do its intended job 20 years from now, the same can't be said about an Apple Watch...

I actually felt the same way. I thought the SS was too shiny for me and liked the subtleness of the aluminum when I tried it on. I also liked the weight. I've had my watch on in all sorts of outdoor activities - digging trenches, coaching softball, normal yardwork and I've banged it a few times with only a slight scuff in one corner - and I had to inspect closely to find it.

As another posted something about the non-sport bands... while a SS band may not look quite right with the aluminum's color (that's up to you, I think), I see no issues with the leather loop at all (I have the 42 obviously).

Maybe in a couple of years, I will like the SS more, and will upgrade then. I'll never get a space gray or black watch - I've never liked black watches, and I don't like these either.

Are you wearing a leather loop during those physical activities? How is it holding up?

Trying to decide whether to upgrade from a sport band to leather loop, but I don't want to have to swap back to the sport every time I do an activity that will generate a little sweat. For more intense activities I would swap, but not the minor stuff.

So like many others I'm still waiting for my SG sports watch.

The wait and regular visits to the Apple Store has got me thinking I may as well upgrade to the SS version.

Has anybody who has received their Sport model regretted not paying the extra for the SS watch and if so why?

Cheers in advance for any help!

Love my 42 SG Sport with black band.

Classy looking and the SG is much closer to black than the iPhone or iPad versions.

Extremely comfortable to wear too.

Did have the 42 sport (Alu) and didn't like the appearance. Sold it for a profit (not my reason for buying) and went for an SS ML which I'm also getting a BSB.

Generally I wear smart clothes so think the SS matches better but want the BSB for when exercising or wearing more casual gear. I also have a few SS watches so used to it. Never taken by dark/black watches so SG not an option.

I think situation influences what you buy but, if you like a certain watch/colour/strap combo, go for it - it's your money and you'll be wearing it after all.

I actually don't wear it for those things. I wear the leather some at work (an office) and some when I'm going out, but switch it out when I'm going to do anything physical. I tend to get dirty pretty quick, and I don't want to dirty up my leather band. The white band cleans up nice and quick.

Do you find it to be a pain to switch out the bands every day or are you ok with it?

Good question for people!

Honestly, yes I had ordered the 42mm Space Gray Sport. It's a sexy watch and the Apple Watch is a gen 1 device. That had me hesitant towards bucking up too much money. Spent a couple of days with it and I certainly love the look of it, but one of the big reasons I was sold on paying a couple hundo for an Apple Watch is modularity. I love changing styles, textures, colors, bands, etc... The SS works much better for that. I also am a very active person and some of the work I do leaves my watch beings open to slight bumps and dings against objects constantly. Not enough to break glass, but I was starting to get paranoid with the space gray watch.

So, I went ahead and purchased the SS as even for a gen 1 device, I think it's great to use. Most of the issues I have are ones that may be solved or aided by software.

In my eyes, for added modularity, subtle design and color changes with different bands, as well as added comfort in durability and the ability to buff out the stainless steel make it well worth the additional cost and I am happy with that choice. Especially since it is something I am going to wear day in and day out. The added touch of class and elegance of the SS is nice as well.

I made the right selection for now going with the space gray sport. I like how it's low key but do sometimes wish it were as easy to pair with different bands as the stainless. What I mean is the stainless is like jeans, it just goes with everything. The space gray can but just not as well.

95% of the time though I never notice the case or the band, only the display and for that all are the same. The tech and the function are the same so for this version I made the right choice. Now that I know how much I enjoy it and plan to continue with a watch in the future I may be looking at a stainless next version and keep this one too hoping they make it easy to wear both and show the same info on both.

I do this some, but I'm concerned that over time I'm going to 'wear out' the lock mechanism. Probably unfounded but I don't know the threshold it's designed for.
