Biggest regret is the weight of the saved $150-$500 weighs in my pocket by not getting a scratch-prone stainless

I belive most bands look better on the SS, even though it's shiny.

The sport looks good with dark bands, but unfortunately Apple current band colours are more on the "help me!" side of the spectrum.

Even the white band and the aluminum contrast strangely.

I don't think the white band contrasts strangely, I really like the combo. I have got a lot of positive compliments on it as well. I'm more a fan of the matte look overall though.

I did think I had my first scratch yesterday though, but it was just the antennae of the butterfly on my clock face :)

Has anyone noticed a difference in weight? I went from a Sport to SS and noticed no difference. Couldn't really even tell holding them hand and hand next to each other.

I tried them both on in the store. The sport did seem slightly lighter but not by much -- but I'm used to wearing a steel watch daily.

I can't understand the need some SS wearers have to rubbish the sport to make them feel better about their choice.

Sports look nothing like "toys". They are, however, the entry level model. I would expect the considerably more expensive SS model to look like the more expensive model. If that's what you look for then go for it.

But the sport looks great. And being lighter it's got it's definite role to play

Trolls will troll.

No regrets at all! :D SG Sport with BSB here - I love black & wear a lot of it, so no contest as to which color I wanted. Figured I'd probably scratch the SS at some point & be bummed about it not looking perfectly shiny anymore, so the darker aluminum solved that concern. Have already lightly knocked the Watch against a metal shelf while digging for a mouse pad & it came out unfazed. I also put a screen protector on it right away, since I figured the Ion-X might not hold up as well as the sapphire screen. The all-dark color scheme looks subtle with just the right amount of gloss on the face & is great for all my daily activities. (I'd worried that the brighter bands might have made it look like a Swatch or sporty Timex from far away).

I work with computers during the day (no hardware work now, so no worries about scratching it on a video card or drive enclosure). Exercise consists of indoor treadmill running, elliptical & weights... nothing that involves jagged rocks, deep water or falling from great heights. ;) Don't attend many black tie events; just small music venues, outdoor bands & friends' unstuffy art/photo exhibits, so my Watch will be appropriate for pretty much everything.

Went to an Apple store before mine arrived, to take the intro workshop, try on all the bands & confirm I made the right decision. The Sport fluoroelastomer was so smooth, easy to put on & comfortable. I liked the feel & magnetic closure of the Milanese Loop too, but the black sport band coordinated best with the space grey aluminum case.

I'm very glad I got the 42mm space grey sport. Although I haven't received it yet, I feel comfortable in my decision getting the sport model for a first generation product since I'm mostly active, and the sport model fits perfectly with my lifestyle. I think I would have regretted ordering the stainless steel model as I would still have to purchase an extra sport band, and it didn't make financial sense to me.

So like many others I'm still waiting for my SG sports watch.

The wait and regular visits to the Apple Store has got me thinking I may as well upgrade to the SS version.

Has anybody who has received their Sport model regretted not paying the extra for the SS watch and if so why?

Cheers in advance for any help!

I'm with ya my friend. The only Apple Watches I've seen live and out in the wild, have been the Stainless Steel versions, and they have me wishing I just would have spent the extra money to get one, though I don't have my SG Sport yet (June 22-29). I'm sure I'll love my Sport once I get it, I love the all black look, but the SS sure does look nice. I have been thinking that I may sell my Sport since people are paying crazy prices to get them, and then just spend the money on a SS version, but I'm on the fence, may just keep my Sport, really having a tough time deciding.

I haven't gotten my watch yet, but I doubt I'll have any regrets going with the SG Sport. The only SS I'm interested in is the space black, and that's so much more expensive that I can't possibly justify that for a gen 1 device. When we're on gen 3 or 4 and the quirks have been more worked out and the feature set has been expanded, then I'll splurge on the black SS.

I must admit, the SG Sport does look pretty cool, love the all black look. Though I have not seen one out in the wild, only the one I tried on. All the others I've seen out there in person were the SS looked REALLY nice. I think I'm gonna stick with my SG Sport though. Maybe next gen I might get the SS.

No regrets here! I'm loving my Space Gray Sport more and more every day. Its on its way to becoming one of my most used devices actually.

I have both Sport and SS
I only use the Sport for fitness and don't wear it to work
I do like the SS, it may be more expensive but the extra dollars spent on it is worth it, especially if you are going to wear it every day

I received mine yesterday. I think it looks pretty good for first version. It was much smaller when i opened the box, i though they sent me 38mm instead of 42mm, and by no means i have large hands or wrist. I can see myself going for stainless steel next time. I might even order new one once the supply increases. Other than that, its a pretty cool watch and I am happy with it. Black band looks good on it, but nothing special. I'm thinking about ordering black leather loop band.

I've had my 38mm SG Sport since launch day and I'm really happy with how it looks on me and that I chose it. The obsessive buyer in me yearns to spend more and get the shiny SS, but my personal taste is holding me back, as I find the SG very discreet and since wearing it only 2 people have noticed and commented on it. I think if it was shiny like SS, it would have stood out more for sure. I prefer people not to comment on it. I might consider a SS for the next gen, as the watch will be a lot more popular by then...I've seen none around where I live at all!

Op, it felt cheap and toy-like so I have it away! I'm in love with my SS 42mm.

Well I can confirm that I have now received my SG BSB. And I absolutely love it, I think it looks ace and love my new toy. So no regrets and now glad I havent gone for the SS.

You're happy and you've saved some money
That's all that matters :)

I'm unsure. I've had my SGS for one week. I also have a SS LL on order as a "backup". I placed the order on 5/3 and it is supposed to ship late June, maybe a bit sooner based on current trends.

I've been to two try-ons. The most recent was last weekend, and boy that SS model looks super nice next to the SG. I love the shiny case, and even the sapphire crystal looks more polished and jewel-like than the Ion-x glass. The digital crown feels more substantial and refined as well.

That said, the Sport is a nice watch. I initially chose it because I felt it was the more sensible decision.

I have to decide this week whether to keep my order going or cancel it. If I take the order, I need to return the SGS this week, or sell it on eBay. Values are still up on eBay but appear to be dropping. I figure in a week or two the premium people are getting (especially for a slightly used watch) will disappear.

Durability is one of my dilemmas. I did get AppleCare+ for my SGS to deal with any major mishaps. I'm reading different info from other posters on whether the Ion-x glass is really that much less durable than the sapphire. I'm concluding that it's a LITTLE less durable. Not as much as some suggest. Consumer Reports showed good scratch resistance from the Ion-X. YouTube has shown cases where the sapphire cracks first. Just depends on the impact.

On the flipside, if I go with the SS LL then I need to think about the leather. I can get my sport band wet all I want, and it's cheap to replace. It's also super comfortable, and I learned that this strap design is also associated with a fairly high end watch - the Ikepod. The LL band on my SS choice would need to be babied a little. And I'd want a sport band for certain uses. Another fifty bucks.

But the SS LL is such a nice looking watch.

Decisions, decisions.

Keep the SGS.

I personally have 42mm Sport Space Gray. I am happy with it. I do think stainless steel looks better and its more luxurious. But price is kinda high with a decent band. I will see later on about ordering stainless steel and see how I like it. But I hear from a lot of people it scratches easily.

the SS with a sport band...like why? if you want to go SS might as well get a nice milanese or leather loop with it.

and in that case, it is so much more expensive than an SGS with black sport band

I don't think the scratching of the SS case is a big problem. It's tiny scratches that people are focusing on perhaps a bit too much.

My latest debate on this whole question of "which watch is better" is actually with the strap. If I went with a SS model, I'd get the leather loop. It's a nice balance of luxury and cost and is infinitely adjustable. In comparison, I have the SG with BSB. The band is super comfortable and water resistant. The LL is nicer for sure, but it is not waterproof. Also I'm not sure how comfort compares. I've worn it twice for five minutes. Not really enough time to judge it. Would appreciate any comments from those who have had it for a while.

As a side note, the SS link band is my ideal band (luxurious, looks amazing, and waterproof), but I am no where near ready to drop that kind of money on a watch strap.

If I got the SS, I'd get a leather loop and a black sport band. Would wear the LL most of the time and the BSB for occasions where I might be hard on it or get it wet.

Had a 42mm Sport Space Gray

Had a 42mm Sport Space Gray, received it on launch day. Loved it but just didn't feel right and seem like a toy and not an actual watch and not many bands would match with it. Sold it over the weekend for $600, ordered a SS 42mm couple weeks back, so now my wait begins. Apple is stating I should have it end of June. After having it for a month, I think I can handle a month or so without it. But boy, do I miss it! So convenient of viewing text and alerts.

Funny thing, ordered a Hoco stainless steel band and that got delivered today but no Apple Watch. :(
