btw just called tampa store and they have a "very" limited supply.

I wonder if they had some yesterday and they still have a limited supply left over or if they were completely out yesterday and now have new stock out for sale today.

I guess I'll call the Houston stores at 11 sharp and be ready to head out if they have any. I can get to the closest Apple store in about 15-20 minutes with no traffic. I find it annoying that all the Apple stores are in suburban malls and I live close to Downtown. :(

Forgot to mention. It looks like hit an miss today for shipments. I havent seen anything specific that stores will get them. Maybe some will, and others wont but no one I have chatted with seems to know.....

my Target store did only get 5 units to begin with and BB had no manifest at all. I couln't drive to the city on rush hour traffic on Friday so I got up at 4pm nd ordered online which went well ... 5 units at Target they may have had a lotterie fro the employees with that number. Walmart was totally quiet and employees did not even know ipad2 was supose to be released.

Just went to BB today and still sold out, went to target they only had the 64gb verizon

I called some east coast Apple stores on the off chance that any received shipments. I called 2-3 in Boston and the NYC 5th Ave. location. All of them told me that they did not receive nor will receive shipments today, and I should try again on Monday.

You have to admit, it must be annoying working there with all the calls they must be getting.

My experience with iPad 1 and iPad 2 was to just walk in a few times a day, when there are no lines, and look behind the counter. I think some employees just don't know when they are getting shipments in.

None at my local store (Bethesda Row). But they did say that they will have a shipment on Monday at an undisclosed time.

I called several Targets in Houston just now.

All of them are out of stock and most of the employees didn't seem very knowledgable but at one of stores the guy said that they weren't expecting more stock for 4-6 weeks due to Apple having manufacturing issues.

I hate these sort of excuses ... like excusing waiters who had a bad day ... sorry but its your job to be professional, not act like everyone owes you something.

I called today and asked if they had any idea when they'd get more, guy made the most hilariously audible sigh, then said "we dont know when shipments are coming," in complete monotone, like he was repeating it for the 80000th time.

I was very nice and said, "okay thanks, but just for comparison, do you remember how long it took for the first ipad to get a new shipment", to which he literally repeated the same sentence again, in the same obnoxiously put-upon voice ...

What a d-bag.

Sorry, but I waited in line for hours, and was literally next when they sold out of what i wanted, yet i have the composure to act like a normal human being, not take it out on him or whomever is closest.... And no ones paying me... so he should too.

I just hope this isn't like the camera connection kit from when it was first released with iPad1. No stock in stores, and when online store said you'd get it in a month... well, you got it in a month to the very day!

They are such liars! I called 3 stores right when they opened asking if they received more shipment Saturday morning. I was told no. I went to 2 stores right at opening and I was told the same thing. I called again in the afternoon and I was told no new shipments. I called stores at 5pm and was told "We sold out of the shipment we received this morning" !!!!! I asked when did you receive shipment? They said this morning before the store opened.

THAT MEANS I WAS LIED TO ON THE PHONE AND IN PERSON!!!!

ditto. figure on waiting til wednesday since that should be the 2nd or 3rd shipment of the week and maybe the initial demand will have calmed a bit so I'm not fighting for one

Checked an Apple store in Dallas on Saturday, was asked to check back on Monday afternoon

I've been on hold for 35 minutes with the Apple store in Houston and there are still 6 calls ahead of me. I don't think they are taking calls. :(

I was told the same thing from my local Apple store in Manhassat, NY about checking back on Monday.

My question is: what's a better strategy, getting there when store opens or a bit later in the morning or day? Does anyone REALLY know when the stores usually receive their truck shipments?

Live there for days and annoy the crap out of them till they hand you one from their secret stash.

I understand what you're saying. I would be upset if I waited in line. It just must suck to be the one answering the phones at the stores during launches.

My experience with the launch of all Apple products I've been interested in is to start popping in the store day 2 on. I never have had to wait more than a week. Never.

I got my iPad 2 at the downtown San Francisco store yesterday afternoon - no line. I went in only to play with one and they had bunch behind the counter. The same thing happened with iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPad 1.

The bottom line is not everyone who answers the phone knows what's going on. The rep at the register didn't even know there was no line when I asked her for an iPad. She said, "You have to go outside and wait in line!" She didn't believe me that there was no line and had another rep verify before selling it to me.

Apple Stores apparently do *not* get Sunday deliveries...

My Apple Store opens at 11 this lovely Sunday morning. Is it likely that they have received anything overnight? Many thanks.

I'll answer my own query, for the record, to be consulted the next time there's a big Apple hardware release.

The Montgomery Mall (Bethesda, MD) store did not get any new stock of iPads in on Sunday morning. They did, however, have a small number that had not been picked up on Saturday, and they distributed those. I think they gave tickets out to people for specific models on Saturday, and told them they could come back anytime during the day. Some folks apparently did not do so.

The Apple folks were incredibly courteous and handled the situation very well, which brought out the best of us in line who didn't get our precious iPads. They very kindly and clearly explained the situation and handed out tickets for what they had left before the store even opened this morning, allowing the rest of us to go about our lives -- sad, empty, iPad-2-less lives though they are. The quest continues.

I stopped by both Montgomery Mall and Bethesda Row. In the Montgomery Mall shop they had a queue of people with some tickets. Some of the Apple folks told me they didn´t know when they will be receiving new ones.

In the Bethesda Row one they told me they would receive some models yesterday at an unknown time and probably new shipments every day starting tomorrow Monday.
