It's unfortunate Apple's above average customer support is exploited by probably thousands at the very least a day, but I guess that's what puts them above the rest.

There Always will be somebody that will try to work the system against Apple and or any other company. Those individuals feel they have a sense of entitlement because amount of money they spend on a product or years of loyality, when in reality, they're not entitled to anything like everyone else. It's logical fallacy for those who try to think they are above the system.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Basically you said you just want to take advantage of the warranty. Then you say you want to disinfect it with alcohol because you bought it used. Now you want another phone so you won’t know where it came from or who handled it. It’s something wrong with you?

Not sure what is hard to understand. I'd like to take advantage of the warranty before it expires. I have the option of disinfecting it with alcohol but that is not my preferred option, I'd rather get a refurbished phone as a replacement.

The only way to do what you want is to exploit the AC+ accidental damage coverage. Which, as has been pointed out, is certainly a violation of the terms of AC+ if you cause the damage intentionally. Of course no one would ever be able to prove that you didn't accidentally drop your phone in the sink -- say, without the sim tray so there's no chance of it not being water damaged -- except you've announced your intention here. In reality it's unfathomably unlikely that anyone will ever find out, but it's still possible.

The reason you're getting such angry replies here is not no much because people are worried about Apple losing a few $ on the swap, but because people are concerned that these types of fraudulent claims are a contributing factor to increasing AC+ prices. If everyone did this, Apple would have to significantly increase the price of AC+ to cover the costs (in fact AC+ +deductible would have to become at least as expensive as a new phone if 100% of people who bought AC+ did this).

All of that said, I'm not here to tell you what you should do. If you acknowledge both the risk and the impact then it will definitely get you a replacement phone.

Understood. This is the first time I've ever bought a used iPhone (I've had a 3GS, 4S, 5, 6, and 6S) and the first time I even really knew what Apple Care did. I was just curious because I noticed the used iPhone I bought with it came with it so I did research on it for the first time.

Anyways I can understand where the "hate" comes from. I stood in line at Costco's customer service watching a guy trying to return a 5 year old TV for a refund. Costco's return policy is even more generous than Apple's and more easily exploitable which does make me have the same feelings of resentment.

My original post was more of a curious tone since I was reading up on Apple Care for the very first time and asking questions.

Hi all, OP here. The main reason is because I bought the iPhone 7 used and it came with Apple Care (runs out next year). I had the Genius Bar check it and the Apple Care hasn't been used at all. I know I can disinfect it with alcohol and what not but I would feel better just having a refurbished phone than one where you don't know what the previous owner did with it.
...buy a new one then?

Nothing better than a thread like this to bring out the “Holier than thou” brigade...
Got this the first time you said it.

Well it’s not even a “refund” this is committing fraud like the others have said. You didn’t even buy the AC+ on it so why are you worried about it? Just keep it on there as peace of mind cause what if you “intentionally” broke your phone to get a new one and then you accidentally drop that one and damage that on accident?

[MOD NOTE]
Closing the thread, trying to game the system, commit fraud or just get around the rules, is that will derail the thread and cause accusations on the OP
