I don't use iMessages, and I rather the phone instantly opens up. When I used touchID as I picked up the phone my thumb was on the home button, by the time I am facing the phone its operational.

Now I have to pick it up, wait for faceID to unlock, then proceed to swipe up.

I meant to unlock the phone with touchID you had to press the home button and it unlocks, with FaceID its 3 step process .

1-raise to wake
2-FaceID unlocks
3-swipe up

I am going to guess this works only if you use Apple's keychain. I use 1password.

iphone 6 to iphone 12 mini, are you ok with the megasaurce display?
I see a Samsung in your future....

And whats with all the screens in the car? I thought we have iphones and ipads so we don't have to touch the screens in the car. Now we have to touch screens of our iphones/ipad AND of our cars?
Dealing with interactive screens is actually a dangerous thing on the road. If your memory is failing you:
Dangers of Using a Cellphone While Driving
Motorists using touchscreens in cars are being distracted

There is a nice Tesla picture for you in there

Just so you know, you don't have to wait for Face ID. You can swipe up right away. If you somehow swipe up before Face ID recognizes you, your phone will go to the home screen once Face ID scans and unlocks. That being said, Face ID is so fast now that swiping and unlocking are practically simultaneous.
Thanks I didn't know that, I thought I had to wait for the lock icon to open

So you're expecting the phone to be constantly scanning for a face when it is locked and the screen is off? That would be an incredible battery drain. It takes literally seconds to tap the screen and swipe up.

Seriously. Face ID is so good I forgot my phone is locked sometimes. You couldn't pay me to go back to TouchID.

Seriously, I thought people prefer FaceID because people picked the phone which auto scans their face and unlocks. If you have to pick it up then swipe up, how is this better than a touchID? In both cases you are touching the screen. I do get though that it enables and all screen phone.

I do agree its faster and invisible when operating the phone itself for authentications like logins and apps, since its 1 step process with FaceID (1-tap app->auto unlock) and 2 for touchID (1-tap app->2 press touchID for authentication)

As for battery drain, either way its not constantly scanning when you raise it it auto checks for a faceID if it does it find it, it goes back to sleep.

Feels like I am back in 2017. The complaint about swiping up to get to the Home Screen was beaten to death when the X was released. Curious, given your recent threads, are you out of your 14 day return window? Sounds like the SE would suit you much better.
I might just do that, you are correct.

Anytime someone answers your question or tries to show you another way to do x, you have more complaining to offer.
You reply is false, since the first person told me I can activate the back tap to go to home screen I replied with "neat"

Welcome to the forums, I have used monochrome Apple Macintoshs.
You've also been a member of the forums for many years. Yet, you seemed to be clueless about the need to swipe up to go home feature that has been on FaceID iPhones for over three years, along with the home bar. And as has been mentioned in a previous post, these things have been discussed ad nauseam for just as long.

I really can't understand your surprise and annoyance with these long known attributes of FaceID iPhones.

I had failures all the time with Touch ID, especially in the winter when my hands get really dry. Face ID almost never fails for me (when I'm not wearing a mask).

It seems that FaceID has been working successfully for some posters even when they have been wearing a mask.

The new iOS beta has the feature where Face ID will unlock if you're wearing a mask and have your Apple Watch unlocked.

Under what logic will I be able to know how FaceID works when I never owned a FaceID device? Next you will be telling me I know how to operate the Apple Watch crown when I never touched an Apple Watch in my life.

Yes, touchID more prone to failure. Sometimes you have to do it 2-3 times.

Apple weren’t lying when they said their competitors are 3 years away from having anything close as good to Face ID, and they still don’t lol, if apple ever get rid of Face ID I’ll be pissed.

The amount of times I’ve had really dry or wet fingers and had to enter my passcode because Touch ID wouldn’t work was so frustrating.

Face ID works 100% of the time for me.

You don’t even have to think about it when unlocking your phone, pick it up swipe up and boom you’re in, these new under screen fingerprint readers are a step back in my opinion.

Had 3 family members switch from android phones this year to new iPhones, first thing they tell me is, wow Face ID is amazing.

Me thinking to myself about time you morons listened lol.

I think people are expecting you to have kept up with what is happening in the iPhone space. FaceID has been out for a while. There is a lot of literature about it. A lot of videos of how to use it and set it up. If FaceID and gesture based navigation isn’t for you then it sounds like the SE is your best bet.

Give it some time, it took me at least a couple of weeks to get used too. I tried using my partners iPhone the other day with Touch ID and I’ve completely forgot how that works and it seemed so slow compared to what I’m used to now with FaceID.

The reverse is also true. I switched from gestures to a home button and found myself opening the control center trying to swipe to unlock. But yeah after a few days I got used to it.

Just an educated guess since you've been a member of the forum for over 12 years and have posted at an average of over 1 post per day. Taking that into account, I would assume you have spent time reading through the forums. As mentioned, your concerns have been beaten to death on these forums over the last 3 years.

I certainly knew how FaceID worked before I owned my first iPhone with it. I’ve only owned a FaceID phone for just over 3 months.

You went from which iphone to which? how did you find the experience?

As someone who’s recently moved from a iPhone7 to an iPhone 11, I’d agree it’s a bit of a change but I’ve had it nearly a week and it’s honestly about just retraining yourself(the same way we did for iPhone with no touch ID to touchID) where while it’s not second nature to me yet it’s not that foreign to me. I had heard some things about face ID and was kind of worried but actually its very easy and has worked for me nearly every time.

Just compared my iPhone 12 to an iPhone 7 and returning to the Home Screen is about as easy on both. Swiping up isn’t any more physically taxing on the body or in a cognitive sense than pressing a home button, just different methods to achieve the same goal. Some people get up from their chair on the right and some from the left, it’s largely insignificant I would say.

The gestures on the X onwards are very fluid compared to that archaic button. It took me a day to get used to it, and it took my near 60 year old tech clueless dad a few hours. I would say I find the gesture/face ID combination a lot more fast and natural. If you're still having problems maybe its time to accept the phone isn't for you and to trade it in for an SE?

Word; I always hated touch ID and it had a high failure rate for me. Even with the mask situation going on I'll take face ID over it; much more fluid IMO.

Same here. I was constantly being frustrated with Touch ID failures. I did have some initial worry about getting rid of the home button because I was so used to having one for so many years. I adjusted almost immediately to my surprise.

I got to the point where I’d be making sure my hands were dry. And with Covid was using alcohol gel with Touch ID doesn‘t go together at all.
