I’m getting one even though I wear size one in the braided loop! I ski, snorkel, swim, bike etc battery alone is compelling and I actively dislike my garmin Fenix 6. But yes it looks huge! I will see if I like it when it arrives but I bet it’s the size of my tag heuer dive watch and given its functionality I hope it will be a keeper!
Ding! Ding! Ding! You are the one-in-a-million user! Please post a picture of it on your wrist when you get it (reply to the thread). My wrist is a 4-5 band and I think it would look crazy, but then again, if I was in my prime, I would be far more tempted as it would make sense for the athlete I was.

My wrist is 6.25" and I wear the 40mm s6 Apple Watch right now. I expect that after a week or so, I won't even notice the Ultra's extra size. However, maybe not haha. I'll find out after 9/23.

Why wouldn't they, if they are top notch athletes, divers or explorers.
Or contractors! I consider this perfect for people with outdoor rugged jobs: contractors, telephone lineman, any job where you hands are engaged and having your phone on your wrist would be beneficial, better than a stainless 45mm with a ruggedized case. It is interesting to me that it is targeted towards people with certain “leisure” pursuits instead of those with professional needs where this would be beneficial. I guess they wait for the third-party business people to pick up that mantle.

I noticed the weight difference between aluminum and stainless on my 40mm S6 and bought the aluminum. I doubt I would ever get used to a big heavy watch.

It's not meant to be a fashion accessory, it's a watch designed for those who are engaged in extreme sports or even not quite so extreme but still done under at times difficult weather or other conditions. So, yes, since some women do participate in extreme sports, are elite athletes, get into situations far beyond what many would even consider attempting, of course they will want and purchase the Ultra.

It's not meant to be a fashion accessory and IMHO those who prance around proudly wearing one, men and women who are not in the least seriously athletic at all, whose lifestyles are just like that of most regular folks, will just look....silly.
I'm no fashionista. Nor am I an extreme athlete. I'm a couch potato, but not by choice. The Ultra has a feature set that would benefit another segment of the population - seniors. The louder volume, brighter screen, rugged case, and help siren are some of the features that benefit those of us who've added a few extra years.

Yes, I'll wear it everyday - just as I have for all of the 7 previous AW's I've had. Will it look too large on my wrist? Maybe. Do I care? Nope, not a bit. I do think I can pull off the look, though, as I already rock a 45mm aw7. :)

I do get what you're saying about those buying it simply because it's the top of the Watch line or for looks. However, I think there are segments of the population like mine that weren't the original target group, yet can benefit from the Ultra and will fulfill their needs.

As to those who buy the Ultra for looks, I think it's great that we have choices and I hope they have fun with their Ultras.

Is that during trying them out at the store? I can feel the 8g difference too if I'm trying, but I honestly cannot feel the 40g weight of my stainless s6 when it's on my wrist every day (maybe I could at first, but it faded into the background soon enough). At 21g more, the Ultra's weight is going to be noticeable too. However, I have other watches that are more than 100g, and I personally haven't noticed it much.

My partner isn't an extreme athlete but she really likes it and is therefore going to buy it instead of the Hermes edition she has wanted for years. She's first going to try one on in person to see how it feels on her wrist.

Luckily she doesn't care if gatekeepers think that only an extreme athlete should wear it; this is by and large a male opinion.

I’m athletic, but just the double battery life alone makes the Ultra a compelling buy for non-athletes, I’d imagine.

I’m not athletic but I don’t see why that would preclude me from getting one. For me the main attractions are the bigger display, brighter display and better battery.

Granted I have small wrists as a man but then women also generally have smaller wrists then men yet this watch is targeted to both all be it to athletes, divers and those who do extreme sports.

I have a series 5 but I prefer to upgrade to the Ultra then the series 8. I’ll just have to see how it looks on my small wrists.

Remember the same conversations about AirPods looking silly. So…

I ordered one & my wrist is ~152mm/6”. I’m more worried about the thickness. When I first bought the 44mm I was concerned that was going to be too big but it wasn’t. Time will tell…I get it 9/23.

This guy has a video about how to template the watch onto your wrist. He has 6 inch wrists as well

I never thought my wife would like it but when she saw it she said she absolutely loves it. I was so confused and said “but I thought it would be too big and look too manly for you”. She said nope she loves it.

I’m struggling enough with the decision to go to a 45mm. The 49 would probably stick off my arm.

i'd be soooo restricted with bands on the 45! i can't even use the milanese cuz it's so long the end comes back around and over the watch face! i almost get to the watch with the smaller watch!

i haven' looked since initial release... but i know the sport bands for the 45 (or whatever the large size was on initial release) didn't go small enough for my wrists....

i don't pay attention to or notice the weight difference between aluminum or SS on my wrist... but i do when i'm holding the watch! the SS just feels so much more substantial! but once on.... i forget all about it and don't even notice the difference (mine are both series 4)

I definitely don’t do “extreme” sports but I do not-really-extreme hiking and occasional races (5-10k). I also travel 3-5 times a year and having my watch last all day with no worries would be a game changer for me. I am a professional 53 yr old and I realize it won’t dress up so well… but I don’t care!!!

Lol I dont buy that this device is not jewlery or fashion accessory. Its absolutely a fashion accessory that apple chose to market as an extreme sporting device.

The thing I like about Apple is that they design things using technology to help people do what they want with it, rather than making technology for technology's sake. The Ultra has features for extreme athletes, but in the end it's whatever end users decide to use it for. It can be many different things for many different people. They didn't play it safe with the Ultra and I admire them for it.

A couple of things — I did check the size of the bands and even the one size fits all ocean one goes down to 130 just like the smallest bands. So they were absolutely thinking about smaller wrists when they built this. That said there is an AR feature on the Ultra portion of the apple website and you can actually look at the watch on your kitchen table next to your regular series 7 or whatever. Having done that I can confirm the thing is huge by comparison to the size 42 (or is it 41?) that I currently have. So it should be interesting once I receive it!! I highly recommend the AR experiment. Eye opening.

And another segment - those with health issues that affect their stability. My brother-in-law suffers from peripheral neuropathy in his feet & hands which causes him to knock his arm into walls sometimes when walking. His watches tend to get pretty banged up so the Ultra will be a great upgrade for him.

My wrist is 5.75 inches and I ordered one. I run/hike/trail run but wouldn’t consider myself an extreme athlete. I’m coming from a 42mm series 3. I don‘t care if it’s huge-I just want to be able to read it comfortably at my age. Plus, I‘m keeping the 3 as a backup, so I can wear that if need be to avoid looking ridiculous.

Ordered an Ultra for my wife and myself. We are currently wearing Series 4, 44mm. Wife and I like bulky watches, it’s going to be our primary everyday watch. Fingers crossed she’ll like it.

This will be my first cellular watch and I am very excited about that and the more I look at the design the more I fall in love with it. End of October is so far away.

Look at the video around the 1:54 mark and it will give you ladies a better idea how it looks on a small wrist.

Great video! You can see that she has the strap tight and there is some overlap where the strap protrudes because her wrist is so small. I have a tag Heur dive watch and I have to fully overlap the rubber strap for that watch too. But it looks good in her wrist! I’m kinda stoked!
