I know some have had serious battery life issues so has anybody switched it off at all just to get you through each day comfortably?

There’s not been a need for me. I end each day with about 55%, and that’s an LTE model.

Wish i had that...mine dies on about 17% at about 21:00 so thinking of ways to reduce that until an update comes out

I turned off always on display. I found that I didn’t really line it. It was great to see the time but most times when I looked down it was just the little time display that gets used as the generic screen when a screen isn’t optimized for always on. And, at least for me, I always get a split second if lag when it comes out of always on, which drove me nuts.

I love my series 5 but don’t miss always on display at all.

If I wanted to switch off AOD I would honestly have bought a second hand S4. For me AOD is what finally makes the AW a usable watch without having to twist my arm in weird ways throughout the day to peek at the time of my notifications.
What weird ways? I can subtly turn my wrist and the time displays.

Nope, going to try a 22km hike soon too with a walking programme going. I'll use the energy saving exercise mode and my Polar H10 chest strap to see how it goes but I'm pretty hopeful even with 6.0.1 it'll get through the challenge.

I agree, I bought the AOD because when I’m in bed and I lift my arm when I’m prone sometimes it doesn’t come on and I have to reach over and touch it with the other hand… AOD solve that problem. Getting 55 pct left at end of day. I turned off listening for high dB and some apps updating in the background.

Nope. I love AOD! I did turn off wake screen on wrist raise though ... I’ve noticed an improvement in my battery since.

I haven't tried it yet as I feel the perks of AOD are better than the little extra battery I'd gain. I think MKBHD did mention he turned it off for awhile and had a 30% difference from his use. I feel like there is probably more factors into that than the AOD alone though. Even if it is a difference in battery too. Coming from the barely get me through a full day Series 0 any battery life is drastically better.

The always on display should only be on when the watch is on the wrist right?

Anyone facing the issue of it still being on when it is lying on the table?

I am getting close to 24 hours on a charge and that is with a 2.5 hr workout with AOD on. I wear to bed and when I get up I still have 20%. I usually charge then and I am good till the next morning. I have had about two weeks.

Once a day maybe? I tried a S5 and the wake feature was slower than the S4
I agree and think AOD is in need of some refinement to make it more fluid. AOD was never a want for me. I guess because, I have used and Apple Watch since S0 and am used to wrist raise. I tried an S5 for 10 days but, returned it. I’m holding on to my S4 until next year hoping AOD will be more fluid.

Turned it off and didn't miss it at all, in fact ended up preferring it and wondering why anyone would want it on when they aren't looking at it. lol.
Then I wrote an article about it (look beyond the silly cheeky headline)

Your article falls exactly in-line with the same basic reasons I’ve turned off AOD. I’m sure there are countless people that love AOD...and that’s awesome. But there is a reason Apple includes a toggle to turn it on or off...it’s an individual user preference. There is no right or wrong answer. For me, I’ll take the extended battery life...
