There are loads of other great online retailers. It's not that hard to check up on them. Small business deserves yours.

It's smart shopping to check any online retailer these days. IMO the best and most reliable place to do this is resellerratings.com. Not perfect but very reliable and the site managers are vigilant about keeping phony feedback off.

One HUGE warning with B & H. If there is a Jewish holiday coming, they will be closed. Nobody will take orders, answer questions, process anything. And they won't warn customers more than a day or two in advance...So before you order, check a holiday calendar.

Their store is closed every saturday. Given that it only takes me an hour away ... and my wife calls them "The $1000 Store" ... that's a good thing.

FWIW, there's also "Unique Photo" in northern NJ that now has a nice Brick & Mortar to match what had been a mail order business for many years; they're another outfit that will generally match B&H, and they're trying to make a customer niche with educational classes ... also worth supporting IMO, particularly since they just had in Art Wolfe for a free lecture (w/images).

Yes. B&H is one of the most reliable stores in the US, and have been around for quite a lot of years. Adorama is another good one, too.

Now, all are losing a good portion of the market to Amazon, perhaps because shipping is free I imagine.

OMG I get hosed for shipping at Amazon on a regular basis (it appears I could fix that by getting their Amazon credit card, but I don't want to). OTOH, I don't think I've paid B&H anything for shipping in the last couple of years.
