I was using a Treegloo until I got my 11" Macbook Air.
Once I realized that the Treegloo made the ipad thicker than the Macbook Air and just as heavy (more or less), I ditched it and got a smart cover.
I mean, talk about illogical.
I probably won't buy a sleeve. My girlfriend was using a little cloth bag to put her ipad in before her Grove case in, so I might snag that when traveling. The weight/thickness it adds to the ipad is negligible (it's very thin material).

Just recently bought an iPad 2 and everytime I held it, it was like I was holding a piece of thin glass. I bought the TechNet cover from Amazon which is a great cover. It covers the screen, back and has the magnetic thing for the sleep function.

Skinit.com

I was using mine bare, but then it got a big dent in the back -not sure exactly where tht came from. So, I started using the snap on type plastic backings which offer good protection, but also make the unit much heavier.

So, to lighten I ditched the back cases and bought a skin to cover the back just so that I don't have to worry about scratches. The one I bought from skinit.com is really nice and has held up well. It is a little challenging to apply it completely straight - took me a few tries, but ever since it has held strong.

I also use one on my iPhone 4, so I can set it down without scratching it.

Anybody else go bareback?
Of course. Do you really think you're the only one out of millions of iPad owners?

I don't. Do whatever you want though.

Be careful using the term bareback. It already has its own meaning (Google if you want).

Am I mad?
No. Are you looking for approval or validation of your choice? Again, do what you want.

bareback here, no single scratch ! just smart cover on front, and the iPad itself travels in a tucano sleeve. it feels way nicer naked.

No screen protector, no case from day one. iPad 2 is in great condition still. This thing amazingly built!

Yeah what is the point of using a beautiful product if you keep it wrapped up? Protection often costs more than scratches take away from resale. Plus scratches and scuffs add character. The screen is glass because it resists scratches.

Ok if I walked around alot outside holding just the iPad without a briefcase or backpack then I would probably have a case for it in case I dropped it. So maybe a case purely for transportation. But mine mostly stays home or in the car.

I've had the iPad 2 since launch day with a smart cover and I have no scratches on the front nor the back. I just make sure that I place the iPad face down (with the smart cover) when I'm not using it. This way, the back stays prestine and the front is still protected.

I used a case for the first couple of days. Yet I wanted to go for the natural feel of the iPad.. Went for it, two days later dropped it on concrete. Glad the screen didn't touch the ground, just the aluminum has some small gashes and scratches and on the top of the bezel the aluminum has this little dent, super close to the screen but not close enough to touch it :D.....

I should be mad, but for some reason I am not. It gives me more of a reason to not use a case since I already dropped it and gave it a little bit of character already I seem to just be glad that I have a clean screen and use this iPad however I want. May still get a sleeve for it though.

Hope you enjoyed the novel.

I think the first iPad was OK with no sleeve, except just a little too slippery, so I put a nice rubbery Belkin on mine — raised edges on the front help keep my grip fingers off the screen, at least most of the time (stray touches only when I really really need them not to happen, thanks Murph). iPad 2, though, with its sharp edge, I find unpleasant to handle without a case. Lots of good options for that.

I use mine just as it came out of the box. The tactile feedback from the display is simply too good to mask. I put a lot of time on my original & it's still like new. My iPad 2 has also remained scratch free. With just a bit of caution, I can't see a reason to cover them.

If only everybody in this world was as friendly as you hey

I know what bareback means, so does the others who replied without bringing it up.

Some kids just take life tooooooo seriously :D

I ran mine bareback with a smart cover until July when I put a vinyl wrap on the back when I noticed some small scratches. That setup worked fine until I got a new cat who decided to smack my iPad off the kitchen table. It hit the floor and flattened one of the corners. Didn't break the screen, thankfully, but I'm ordering a rugged rubber case for this thing now.
