I'm not going to preorder - I'm just going to go to Apple stores next weekend and check out the products. I frankly don't anticipate lines or supply shortages, so I figure I should just be able to go the store and examine the product. I also will be exchanging a 6S, so I figure Apple should give me some $ for that

i'm sure there's still going to be lines. unlike me and quite a few others on here who are not impressed with the iP8, there's still plenty that will wait for the sole purpose of saying they waiting for the iPhone. i actually hope they do, less people i have to try to jump in front of online for the X pre-order.

I am, I can see how people with a 7/7 Plus might be disappointed, but I skipped the 7 since that was a disappointment to me coming from a 6S Plus. It seems to be making much more sense to skip one generation these days. The 6S Plus was a good upgrade from the 6, especially if you had the laggy 6 Plus. Maybe if they include OLED and the newer design in all their phones next year it will make sense, but eh. iPhone X a month+ later, $200+ more and an unproven technology, I'll let everyone else test it out.

If that means in store then yeah they should have shipped by then don’t you think?
Yes, typically Apple tries to get the pre-orders in customers hands by the release date, however that doesn't always happen.

Getting the 8 plus and tossing the 200 dollar difference from the X to the Series 3

Coming from a 6p, so while I'm not sure the iPhone will be a significant upgrade, it is something different.

My question is I wonder how slammed the preorder will be. I know the shipping dates will slip but I can't see them slipping right away like the norm. I plan on doing what I normally do and wake up and 3am to get the preorder in. That X preorder is going to be a cluster F lol.

Yes, you were right it was 30% efficiency but up to 70% so my mistake. I still don't push my phone enough to need 70% more power than my 7 has. I stick by CPU stats are for bragging rights. Unless you use ever bit of that CPU power its just big numbers to get sales and for myself its not worth the cost this year. The apps I use certainly don't push the CPU to its limits and I doubt iOS 11 will tbh. Its the same as routers many people buy because the number on the box is big so it must be better, without realising that it may not really mean that much in the real world. I think this article sums up exactly my feelings

http://mashable.com/2017/09/12/if-you-own-an-iphone-7-dont-buy-the-iphone-8/#kG_.102ZCPq8

That article could swap the iphone 7 for the 6S and the same argument could be made to an extent.
I'm currently using a 64GB 6S and nothing I saw in the keynote made me think "I really want that new phone". I skipped the 7 for the same reason.

My 6S still does everything I need it to and it's still perfectly quick enough even after 2 years. I can see it maybe slowing down with iOS 12 but considering it still benchmarks higher than some newly launched phones I can't see it having any issues with iOS 11.

No real reason for me to upgrade from the 7 Plus. I got this thing for a killer deal (basically $450 on Verizon) and the 8 just doesn't have any compelling features for me to upgrade for. First time I won't be upgrading year over year.

I'm very excited to go to the 8+ from my 7+. I originally planned on going to the X but that November release date is what got me. I don't want my iUP cycle to be off and end up 4 additional payments for the X. 8+ is honestly better in my eyes as I won't have to deal with the notch during video and the much lower price. It seems nobody is really talking about the ability shoot at 24 fps which I think is a huge deal in getting professional looking video out of the phone. I'm also very excited for the even louder speakers (with better bass response), wireless charging, and the True Tone display

I am hoping for the best from the speakers the one on my 6S+ has always been a disappointment.

People said that about the 7... It took months for the 7Plus to get back into stock.

The 8+ does in fact support Dolby Vision and HDR10 as seen in the below screen grab from Apple's website

It’s kind of confusing, because they support it but don’t have an HDR display? Honestly I’m not sure why the specs are seemingly contradicting each other but I hope it’s just a marketing thing.
