So does the early 2020 not flicker (with Intel) and the late 2020 flicker (with M1)?

They both flicker. Frequency nearly the same.

The early 2020 starts to flicker from 75% and below.
The M1 model starts to flicker from 50% and below.

But has a general low 60Hz flicker all the time.

M1: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple...le-M1-CPU-humbles-Intel-and-AMD.508057.0.html

MBA 2020 early: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple...s-the-Core-i3-the-better-choice.465534.0.html

Have to correct myself. Just found out, that every time I use the M1 MBA after a time I get kinda dry eyes and eye strain... When I jump to my old rMBP 15" everything is fine.

Maybe it could be the 60Hz flicker which is there all the time? Already adopted to the 1280 x 800 resolution at my 13" system.

:(

Can you guys try the color profile "SD 170M-A"? One user on ledstraing.org is able to use the M1 Mac mini with this color profile and not with the others!

Will try this later on, hoping it helps! I'm curious if anyone else has a similar experience, could potentially be good news.

Guys I thought I was alone in this and thought there was something wrong with me because since I started to use my MacBook Pro I became dizzy, my eyes burn, I can't focus on anything anymore it's really painful! I thought the issue was only with my external monitor that is a Dell 4k but it continued to happen with the macbook only. This is something really serious that I'm shocked that apple is selling a product so bad as this one!

For me I had eye strain with MBA M1 - but MBP M1 everything is fine.

I think it is the bad contrast on the MBA M1 display.

That's interesting, are you really having no issues with the MBP M1? The MBA is giving me terrible eye strain and headaches, I'm curious if there'd be a difference with the Pro.

Yes indeed.

That is my experience after six weeks of testing the MBA and now using 3 weeks the MBP.

It has something to do with the contrast/coating or any other stuff with the MBA display (in my case).
MBP no issues at all.

Another idea besides colors and flickering, have you tried the 1280x800@2x resolution (not the default 1400x900@2x)?

I can't look at the scaled default resolution for more than a few minutes, my eyes keep trying to re-focus because everything is slightly blurry. I have no issues at all with the pixel-perfect 200% resolution. Things are a little too big, but I usually use an external screen anyway.

Hi

Would love to know how this is going for you, I had the same issue with Retina displays, ended up going back to my 2015 MBA and can use all day everyday, yet a 2019 MBP with Retina killed my eyes in about 10 mins or so... after a few hours I could go back to my MBA and use for hours.. had my eyes checked and played with True Tone but still no good and not a lot a good info back then so gave the MBP to my wife who uses it once a week..

if the new MBP M1 is ok, I might try again.

Also if anyone can generate a list of settings for a 2019 MBP with Retina to stops the eye strain so I can try that as well.

Cheers legends!!

Steve

Holy sh*t, just came across this and changing my background helped a lot! I didn't know what it was but so much better on the eyes after ditching the default red.

What are you using? I found switching to night time Big Sur works well for me.

Hello everyone. I was having eye strain when True Tone, blue light filter, default wallpaper of Big Sur, Dark mode and automatic brightness was on. After reading posts in this forum I turned off True Tone, blue light filter, automatic brightness, Dark mode and default wallpaper of Big Sur. I don't have any eye strain now. I can watch the display all day long without any strain. I want to thank all of you who solved this problem for me. Personally, I use to get eye strain when I used to use blue light filter in my old windows laptop and that experience also helped me to turn off the blue light. It's funny how we fear blue light but in this case blue light is some how more soothing to the eyes. I read that there is a research which say that blue light filter does more harm than good. I would like to hear from any one who is also having eye strain because of blue light filter.

I have the same problem with blue light filter, seems to cause me more issue instead of helping.

But are you sure that changing the Big Sur wallpaper helps? I mean if you keep it and you start to watch Netflix you'll get eye strain even if you don't look at it?

Hey bro, I am from India too.

I am sensitive to OLED PWM generally. I will not use OLED phones at all. Now thinking to buy M1 MBA. How is your experience? Thank you.

I have just ordered Macbook Air M1 ... It will be delivered in 6-7 days so I still have time to Cancel it.
I use Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus with no issues and ipad air(2013, ik it's old) with no issues
I just bought a Lenovo IdeaPad s540 which I am unable to use, I cannot even look at it for 5-10 mins. I gave that to my brother. He has no issues using it
I am from India and here there's a NO REFUND Policy. Further I cannot see them in stores right now.
With my past history, I only had trouble using the Lenovo Laptop, which I guess was of inferior quality(still it costed 1000 USD), before that I never had any troubles even using screens 10-12 hrs a day
What do u guys think, will the MacBook be fine for me.(PS: Again.. I cannot return it.. so if it doesn't it's a waste of 1300 USD)
Thanks!

Can you find the 60Hz flicker with slow-motion camera at any brightness level?

I'm sensible to flickering (no OLED iPhone for me), but the M1 MBA is fine. Took a little time to adopt (because of screen size and better display than quite old MBP) - but now it's ok so far.

Same here. Cannot use OLED phones because of PWM. How is your pwm experience with MBA M1?
