They both flicker. Frequency nearly the same.So does the early 2020 not flicker (with Intel) and the late 2020 flicker (with M1)?
So which one is best if flickering bothers you? They both flicker. Frequency nearly the same.
The early 2020 starts to flicker from 75% and below.
The M1 model starts to flicker from 50% and below.
But has a general low 60Hz flicker all the time.

I'm sensible to flickering (no OLED iPhone for me), but the M1 MBA is fine. Took a little time to adopt (because of screen size and better display than quite old MBP) - but now it's ok so far.So which one is best if flickering bothers you?
Can you guys try the color profile "SD 170M-A"? One user on ledstraing.org is able to use the M1 Mac mini with this color profile and not with the others!
Yes, there is problem, as MBP 16' had.I am starting to get some eye strain while using M1 MacBook Air.
Can anybody confirm if is flicker-free or not?
It's either flicker or the blueness is giving me eyestrain.
That's interesting, are you really having no issues with the MBP M1? The MBA is giving me terrible eye strain and headaches, I'm curious if there'd be a difference with the Pro.For me I had eye strain with MBA M1 - but MBP M1 everything is fine.
I think it is the bad contrast on the MBA M1 display.
Yes indeed. That's interesting, are you really having no issues with the MBP M1? The MBA is giving me terrible eye strain and headaches, I'm curious if there'd be a difference with the Pro.
HiYes indeed.
That is my experience after six weeks of testing the MBA and now using 3 weeks the MBP.
It has something to do with the contrast/coating or any other stuff with the MBA display (in my case).
MBP no issues at all.
What are you using? I found switching to night time Big Sur works well for me.Holy sh*t, just came across this and changing my background helped a lot! I didn't know what it was but so much better on the eyes after ditching the default red.
Hello everyone. I was having eye strain when True Tone, blue light filter, default wallpaper of Big Sur, Dark mode and automatic brightness was on. After reading posts in this forum I turned off True Tone, blue light filter, automatic brightness, Dark mode and default wallpaper of Big Sur. I don't have any eye strain now. I can watch the display all day long without any strain. I want to thank all of you who solved this problem for me. Personally, I use to get eye strain when I used to use blue light filter in my old windows laptop and that experience also helped me to turn off the blue light. It's funny how we fear blue light but in this case blue light is some how more soothing to the eyes. I read that there is a research which say that blue light filter does more harm than good. I would like to hear from any one who is also having eye strain because of blue light filter.
Hey bro, I am from India too.I have just ordered Macbook Air M1 ... It will be delivered in 6-7 days so I still have time to Cancel it.
I use Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus with no issues and ipad air(2013, ik it's old) with no issues
I just bought a Lenovo IdeaPad s540 which I am unable to use, I cannot even look at it for 5-10 mins. I gave that to my brother. He has no issues using it
I am from India and here there's a NO REFUND Policy. Further I cannot see them in stores right now.
With my past history, I only had trouble using the Lenovo Laptop, which I guess was of inferior quality(still it costed 1000 USD), before that I never had any troubles even using screens 10-12 hrs a day
What do u guys think, will the MacBook be fine for me.(PS: Again.. I cannot return it.. so if it doesn't it's a waste of 1300 USD)
Thanks!
Have to correct myself. Just found out, that every time I use the M1 MBA after a time I get kinda dry eyes and eye strain... When I jump to my old rMBP 15" everything is fine.
Maybe it could be the 60Hz flicker which is there all the time? Already adopted to the 1280 x 800 resolution at my 13" system.
