Sorry to be slightly off topic guys but I posted above because the Mission Control thing was affecting my old iMac.
So I thought I should come back here and report .. ALL IS SOLVED
After some accidental experimentation .......
The cause of the stutters when entering Mission Control and switching between Spaces, as well as some stuttering when rolling along the taskbar ..
The cause was the Application "f.lux".
I discovered this app a while ago and have enjoyed using it. It adjusts the screen brightness and colour tone according to daylight/night. I later discovered that had set the time that I get up in the morning incorrectly .. but before I did, I dicided to quit it and stop it starting on Login.
Suddenly today ... ALL OF THE STUTTERING WAS GONE. As if by magic.
I knew the only app I had changed for f.lux. So I started it again and .... stuttering was back. I rebooted five more times with it on/off and I am now certain this was the cause.
NOTE: Of course I realise that mine is an old iMac and it won't affect modern iMacs or MBPs anything like as much ... but I suggest that if anyone is using the app, they should turn it off, stop it starting at login (dock and Preferences) and check if it improves your graphics ...
All the best !
