Why would people see this iMac from any different angle than any other iMac? Plenty of situations where no one would see the back. I just like it because it's iconic. Even the original colorful G3s said "iMac" on the front.

Probably best ask Apple, but that is what their presentation seemed to say. Personally though, the only person who sees the front of my computer is me. All my colleagues see of it is the back. They'll hopefully like the blue color and logo on mine when it gets here.

Otherwise, I can't answer for Apple's choices. All I can say is that personally I could really not care less what they did in the past. It's a new product, I don't see why there is a reason it has to conform to someone's idea of a rule of come kind. But you'll have to ask them for their reasoning.

It was a rhetorical question ;) I just think the "I already know it's an Apple" responses some people give are sort of silly, as if THAT's why people who liked the Apple logo there wanted it there - because they kept forgetting it was an Apple, lol! No, it's just the traditional look and it's sort of ironic that they're harkening back to the G3s, yet breaking tradition in another sense. And, yes, I know it's easy enough to put a sticker there, but the inlayed Apple was nice. Sort of like the difference between stickers on a guitar fretboard, vs. genuine inlay where there are slots routed out for actual solid pieces of material to be glued in.

I honestly don't care about the bezel, the lack of a logo, or the chin. These items have nothing to do with how the machines will work.

I love the options for color. I ordered one in yellow. I would have gotten the purple but it probably would not look great in my home.

My only real gripe at this moment is the lack of support for more than one external monitor. That will be a real compromise for me. Otherwise I'm happy.

I was shocked and appalled when I first saw it. The "white" bezels didn't bother me, but the fact the chin was still there and it looked from the front 98% the same as a 2007 iMac I was like NO WAY.

Now I think I love it and ordered it. What can you do.

So your reasoning for not caring about the bezel, logo, and chin is that "these items have nothing to do with how the machines will work," but then you immediately go on to praise the color options, which also have nothing to do with how the machine works ;) So just keep in mind that people care about those other things for their own aesthetic reasons (not pragmatic reasons). For instance, I would have preferred they kept the front Apple logo but I, like you, don't care about the bezels or chin and DO like the color options.

The only time I object is when people make TOO big of a deal about these things. For instance, people who say the new iMac is "atrocious" (or pick your extreme adjective) because it has "white" bezels, etc. LOL!

Tangental to discussion, looks like the forthcoming MacBook Air is going to follow the new iMac’s design sense and aesthetics including similar colour options and WHITE bezels.

Cue the ensuing howls of outrage, already beginning.

I suspect the 24in. iMac is the first example of Apple’s refreshed design direction with the MacBook Air being the next step. We know there is a new MacBook Pro coming as well and the redesigned Air could be a strong indication of what that Pro could look like.

Unless Apple decides to really distinguish between Air and Pro MacBooks as well as iMac and a supposed iMac Pro line then the black bezel advocates better brace themselves for whats coming.

Yeah, it's personal preference. No need to be consistent with issues that really aren't that big of a deal. I would have bought it even if it resembled a vacuum cleaner if it meets my needs. The color thing is a bonus.

I think there is, otherwise we look disingenuous. Despite protestations to the opposite in the midst of a forum exchange, I bet 99% of the members of this forum place significant value on BOTH looks AND functionality. I agree it's not THAT big of a deal and those who say this looks "hideous" (whether due to the chin, bezels, color choices, etc.) are just being ridiculous. Even granting that it's subjective, that's an extreme opinion. Anyways, hope you enjoy your new iMac! I'm holding out for one with a larger display in the future.

This will really get some people in an uproar!

Imagine colors on an Air!

Or even worse "Pro" colors other than space gray or silver !!!

Are we being transported back in time to the G3/G4 colored plastic times ???

I Was Looking At A MacRumors Comment Section On The New iMac, Mostly All Of The Comments Were "The New Design Looks So Ugly" And "Who Will Buy This?" I Just Wanna Know Who Here Likes The New iMac
If Jony Ive was involved in the iMac redesign, he should go into hiding. I walked by one at Best Buy the other day not realizing it was an Apple product and thought it was some kind of generic all-in-one from an obscure computer maker. Just goes to show how much Apple has lost its way without Steve and Jony. They ruined the looks of the iMac. I have never seen so many negative/halfhearted reactions to an Apple product. Notice how the advertising photos try to creatively hide the awkward design? I loved the Apple logo on the front. Now it looks like a cheap China knock off. I pray they follow it with a Space grey larger model that appeals to males rather than the Easter Bunny.

Most surveys I’ve seen from average everyday people show majority of people like the new design. If you don’t like the new design, chances are you are not part of the demographic they are designed for. These iMacs are made for families, kids, offices, schools, computer labs, front desks, grandma and grandpa. They are consumer macs branded for what Apple feels is the right demographic.

This is Apple returning to a more accessible design. Just how the original iMac was vibrant, colorful, and fun.

I’ve got stale…

the new design is fine. Never had a problem with it. What I didn't realize was in-store the new design really didn't stand out any more to me than the previous iMac design.

I think one reason is the previous design is thinner at the edges which caught my eye just as much or more than the new design when they were side by side.
