Those are two separate entities that handle that. Are they both saying they're not worried about crime? I'm kind of curious if the district attorney (who is elected, at least in Texas) is ok with them not putting much effort in to catching the criminal.

true... the crown prosecutor's officer will be swamped with porch pirate cases if they choose to prosecute 100% of the cases reported to the police.... :)

I keep the boxes too for trade-ins. Although Apple doesn’t require the boxes, other trade-in vendors ask whether it’s included before quoting, and is often mentioned in used product descriptions. They’re good for safer shipping too. That said, it doesn’t sound like you’re saying it’s a bad idea to keep the boxes.
Me too. It is part of making a good first impression. When you sent in your trade-in and it is in the original box with even the tissue paper protecting the screen the receiving person is more likely to press the condition "like new" button.

having a pristine original box of any any kind of electronics will usually mean more money and faster sales.... buyers love that... (including yard sales, pawn shops, eBay, Craigslist, or even between friends) :) in my personal experience, it usually increases the value by anywhere from 10% to 25%.

BTW, I already got the replacement from Amazon and luckily they shipped it in an actual shipping box this time... the box is in perfect condition.
