I'm loving the XR so far. However, I would estimate I do 80% of my work from my phone. The XR is much easier for me to use single handed coming from my 7+ (which I loved). However, I want to use the Max for a few days to see if it's really worth the extra expense and size for extra screen real estate. I may end up returning the XR, trying to Max and again returning the Max for the XR. The lack of decent XR cases is also annoying. If I didn't depend on my phone so much for work purposes I would 100% stick with the XR. There's really nothing I dislike about it. I'm just trying to convince myself I'm not missing out on the Max.

If you need your iPhone for work the decision is easy. Take the XR! Things like OLED displays, dual camera, steel chassis and a bigger case are not relevant. What counts is the longer battery life, the better reception and the better portability. The display of the XR has the same point resolution than the XS Max so you see the same content but in a more portable case. You don't look videos where OLED might be an advantage...The display on the XR is excellent! Best LCD I ever saw...

No, I am sticking with the Xr I see no reason to give Apple my hard earned money unnecessarily. I'd have to go with 256gb because there is no 128gb option and that puts me at the $450 range and/or $500 with the additional $50 for Apple Care +. OLED is nice, telephoto lens is nice, but not $450 to $500 nice! My Xr is just the right size and I am enjoying it. No looking back to the XS Max at this point for me! I am also digging this long battery life!

Yep--precisely the same way I see it. I'd love to have a Lexus, but not for the money. A Highlander is perfectly fine.

I just love watching my 1080p movies on the max tho and 1080p hdr videos. The more ram does help. And the most important thing that EVERYVODY has forgot to say. Gigabyte-class LTE! I have noticed a huge bump in speed with it. I am always on the phone while I am remoting into computers and it’s so much better. Less lag and input is crisp.

The XR just feels like a toy to me, and the bezels annoy me. I was paying $43 a month for the X, I pay $9 more for the max. So since there is monthly it doesn’t hurt right away and $9 more a month ain’t nothing.
Yes the OLED screen looks better and all of our battery’s last the day into the night!

Had a Max for 2 weeks and returned it, got the XR today and it's perfect so far.

Feels like a better phone for my usage. Only thing I miss from the Max is the OLED contrast and smaller bezels, but that came with PWM eyestrain when in low light conditions. And the price difference is just insane IMO, makes no sense for what I use a phone for.

Would be perfect if Apple made a silicone case for it!

I went the opposite way after having the Max for ~ 4 weeks.
I used a Max for two weeks and returned it for an XR. It was just too big and I came from an 8+. I didn’t use 3D Touch and rarely take photos so giving that up was a non issue for me. I couldn’t see a huge difference in screen quality either. The XR is the perfect size and is right for me. As an added bonus I saved $400.

i’ve has the Max since launch day and grabbed an XR last week that will likely go back. i love the size (including thickness) and it really is the one handed big phone I would ideally love. battery seems comparable between the two and the screen is lovely, but the OLED is just notably better for me and i did miss 3D touch, funny how it became second nature without realizing (especially in notification center). that and the use of the telephoto for shooting outdoors in great daylight was sorely missed this past week.

that being said, I’ve strongly recommended the XR to many people; it’s a fantastic device at a good price.

But that’s the theme now, With everything. The XR is over priced, the XS is over priced. A freaking styles (pencil) is $130. I mean wow.

Yep everything with Apple is overpriced. Their wireless keyboard is $129 (Canadian). It's a freakin keyboard for crying out loud.

Just saw it. $799 starting for an iPad is too much in my mind, but they go on sale for $100-200 off during the holidays.

I'd wait for refurbs which I'll likely do with the new Mac Mini.

Why would I go with refurb when it's usually cheaper to buy new at Best Buy when it goes on sale? Regardless, I'm skipping this gen since don't need one.

Yeah true. If you can get it on sale at BB then so be it. Side note though. I was just on the Apple website viewing the new iPad and the page scrolls from left to right instead of up/down like a normal webpage. Kinda weird.

I always use 3D Touch, pop and peak is huge for me. But i did hear Instagram and others are going to make there apps adapt to it so it works.

You will get use to it in no time. Now after swiping for the last 2 years. The home button seems so primitive to me now. Home buttons are going away forever in every single phone out there in time. Might as well get use to it now.

Well I think going from an X to XR is a downgrade. Your use to all the top tier tech.

This whole X/XR issue sounds like when Android users argue with Apple users? You keep trying to justify your reasons and that’s cool and all, but to each their own. People buy what they like and what they can afford.

Yeah, this whole this iPhone is better than that iPhone is getting old. The best iPhone is the one you buy that suits your needs and nothing more.

I did the same. I can't stand Apple's OLED displays. The color shift makes them look horrible, in my opinion. I have yet to see a single X/XS/XS Max that has a uniform display or no drastic color shifting. Whether true tone is on or off, there is always that "yellow" blotch that moves up and down the screen with just the slightest tilt. Using the phone and seeing the top of the display have a warm/yellow tint, while the bottom has a bright cool/blue, is one of those distracting things where once you see it, you can't unsee it. I'm not paying over $1K for that. I'll take a lower resolution screen over a non-uniform one ANY DAY.

Clear Apple case on the way.
