No there going with a yearly cycle, everything will start to be launched/reupdated every October

I would agree, but it seems as though Apple is refreshing the iPad sooner now, and it may only be a short time frame before they have two releases of the iPhone.

Still unclear why they have not refreshed the Mac Pro, and the ones they have in their Refurb are way over priced.

Wirelessly posted

Everyone should know Apple had to update the iPad due to the lightning connector. The iPhone & iPod line up converted, leaving the iPad as the only remaining iDevice still using the "outdated" 30-pin.

This connector is a major shift for Apple and to rip the band-aid off so to speak, they had to do this. Now the entire Apple iOS family has a standard connector.

Obviously, updating just the connector would be embarrassing, so they also threw in the latest chip specs too.

Do not expect these mid-year cycle updates to become common place.

I for one am glad to see Apple jump head first into making the lightning connector conversion a rapid reality. I'm not a big fan of having multiple charging cables laying around for different devices.

I for one am not about to upgrade my ipad3 sinmply for a connector. Its not that serious and besides I only use the (one) connector to charge each day at home right before I hit the sack.

I think one of the reasons for them quickly releasing the 4th Gen iPad was to get all of their product lines streamlined with the new Lightning connector.

I think it's safe to say that Apple have now had a hit of common sense, just before the frenzy of buying that is the Christmas season (Holiday season for other religions ;)) Apple will announce the iphone in September and computer/iPad in October with everything on sale by November.

Makes them more money, makes a lot of happier buyers who don't have their Christmas present superseded after 3 months.
