Why are you so concerned with this, keep in mind that each drop is different from the next. No case will protect it against every kind of drop. Also a phone with a glass screeen is more likely to beak than one with plastic.

eric & kevla,

i got the iphone yesterday, and today without dropping it or doing anything out of the ordinary i have ended up with a tiny little piece of glass missing from the very edge of the where the glass meets the silver frame. there are no other marks or scratches on the phone, and i honestly havent dropped it or done anything to it which could have caused damage. i only finished charging it this morning and was driving around looking for somewhere to buy a case from when i picked it up to use it and noticed this odd little bit at the edge. i pointed it out to my boyfriend and when he ran his finger gently over it the glass actually came away and left a teeny little hole!!!

i took the phone back where i bought it and they have said that the phone warranty doesnt cover damage.... so therefore they (so far) wont do anything about it. my arguement to them was that i havent 'done' anything to damage it in less than 24hrs of owning it. its almost like there was maybe some kind of factory fault or weakness in that spot and simply my using and touching it has caused it to come loose.

my biggest concern is that if i dont pursue this with either the place i bought it or Apple- then what if over the next week/month/year (whatever) it becomes a problem, ie other parts of the glass start to do the same?? or perhaps a crack starts to appear across the screen from the spot that is now missing a tiny piece. surely it must create a weakness in the rest of the glass????

Kevlar, reading wot you wrote is making me wonder if something similar has happened with your screen- bcos it sounds as random as mine does???

im going back to see the manager of the shop i got it from on thurs so i'll see what he says- im gonna try and fight against the whole 'not covered for damage' bcos if its a factory fault and i certainly didnt cause it then in my opinion they should have to replace it.
