Same sentiment here. I love my 13". Thought it was the perfect size. rMBP 15" has convinced me I was wrong.

I'm curious, is it the weight of the 15" or the size? The 15 is wider and longer than the 13", is this not an issue for you?

Not really, no. It's fits in all the same bags that my 13" did and because it's thinner feels less bulky. I don't think the jump for 13" to 15" is as noticeable as it would be from 15" to 17".

I was heartily convinced that 13" was the ideal laptop size but my rMBP quickly changed my mind.

Of course this will be different for everybody.

It seemed liked it would be noticeable but the width is almost imperceptible. I think it's because the screen bezel on the 15" is thinner. In any case, since it's thinner the 1/2" extra width doesn't matter in terms of being able to reuse all my old bags. I haven't tried a sleeve yet because I barely put my retina away :D

Anyone carry the laptop around everywhere they go? I feel like it's still too heavy to carry around to the library or work on a regular basis.

I don't know if downgrading to rmbp 13 is worth the trade off (portability vs performance).

What are your thoughts?

Before I started bringing my iPad to class, I would bring my 15" rMBP every day to take notes on. It never really was that much of a burden, I'd just throw it in my backpack.

My 15'' rMBP lives with me. It travels with me everywhere - school, work, home, friend's house, etc. I have had no issues in any way with it as far as portability goes. I did own an air before buying the rMBP. It was obviously even easier to transport from place to place but after getting used to the feel of the rMBP, I hardly notice a difference.

I carry it with me everyday around college and when I walk to college. I do this along with my notes and books in a messenger bag without any issues at all.

Sure I can feel the difference when it's in or not, but that's the same with my notes. It's not a problem and I change shoulders every time I put the bag on to balance things out.

I do, I have a nice bag for it from Italy (TUCANO Stile Large), there is a space for some papers and other stuff.

But I have to admin it was dropped twice and I would buy something better to protect it for next model. 3 of 4 corners are either smashed a bit or have some sings of heavy "usage".

Oh dear.

I carry around my 17" MBP, and a whole lot of other associated crap that I usually don't need (like a heavy fold-up umbrella, and assorted USB HDDs) around in a backpack every day.

I can carry around a computer that's 50% heavier than yours no problems, and you struggle with yours: Considering MY build, you must be a twig.

P.S. I don't go to the gym.

P.P.S. The RMBP does not need to be lighter. If anything, it needs to be heavier, and more powerful.

I have a 15" retina and a 13" air. The retina both in 13 and 15 inch form are not portable enough to carry everywhere. The air is, just get both.
