An old article from 2010 but definitely relevant to this discussion IMO:

http://www.gizmofusion.com/2010/11/why-verizons-lte-network-will-have-the-best-in-building-coverage/

Verizon's LTE is at the 700MHz frequency, which theoretically should have better building penetration than 3G. This would be a really important factor for me if I traveled a lot to different offices/sites, etc.

Battery life might be improved slightly by sticking to 3G, but I wonder by how much since the stated life of the phone is 8hrs for both 3G and LTE browsing.

I leave it on mainly because I seem to get better reception from the LTE towers than the "4G" ones near my house. I get one bar on "4G" versus 3 on LTE, so less dropped calls when walking around downstairs.

But speedwise I get anywhere from 6-16 down and 5-10 up. On 4G I typically get 3-6 down and 3 up.

I live in Raleigh so it is one of AT&T's 10Mhz areas. I haven't tested everywhere, but I have yet to see over 16 Mbps.

I will say that the iPhone 5's 3G radio seems to be a lot better performing than the iPhone 4's. I was doing some tests and was getting 6-8 megabits/sec consistently with LTE disabled on the 5... On the 4 I rarely got over 2-3 megabits and that was on a good day!

Also dont forget that now everyone has LTE so the HSPA network is wayyyy less congested.

No, you might as well have kept the 4 or 4S.

Negative sir. There's more to love about the iPhone 5 than just LTE. Internet speed is nice, but not at the expense of data overages. Consistent Internet is more important, and a combo of 3G and WiFi works well for me...

I will, live in a small college town with no ATT LTE, so no point of turning it on and drain battery

no. this is what i get without lte

My battery life hasn't been great & I've noticed my phone switching between 3G and LTE a lot so I think I'm gonna try toggling it off and see if that improves the battery life or not. Otherwise I'd love to have LTE on all the time.

I do when I am at work....it is on wireless, was 43% when I got home (no heavy use) but I was up at 4:30am & got home at 9:30pm...my 4s would have died hours ago

Why yes, I would love to buy the corvette and disable four cylinders

Lol :D
Not the same.
Just saying if you're at work or home or some place for a while and you have fast wifi available then LTE wont matter and if it saves you some battery then toggle it off.
Then when you leave and need to use carrier data away from wifi turn it back on etc...
I miss sbsettings, it took a second to toggle things like that on and off.

I think the question is meant to ask, "Would you disable LTE when not on WiFi?" to which everyone here would reply, "No, that's ridiculous, I paid for the LTE capability and i's 20 times faster."

True.
Not even sure if its worth it cause maybe its not using up that much additional battery with LTE on.
I mean I do get fast HSPA+ speeds with 8-9mbps that I could be fine with 3G too but mind as well get the superfast speeds. :)
