i'm totally loving my new iPhone
i've had a touch since they came out and i thought that might have been a mistake, it'd take away some of the coolness of the iphone, but it hasn't - i've been playing with the iphone all day long with a big stupid grin on my face :D

if anything, i find typing on the iPhone easier than on the Touch - and i've gotten pretty good at typing on that. i think being slightly thicker helps.

the main issue is being able to sync with the address book on OS X so easily. i've had Razrs and Sony Ericsson phones before, and it was always a pain to keep the contacts and the calendars in sync that i never bothered. but now i'm actually making an effort to keep them up to date

i'll admit there are some quirks - i've only ever used mms 3 times in the last 3 years so it's no great loss, but i do like to spam my friends with txt msgs at odd times - but even then, i'm having so much fun with the iphone that i don't mind having to type the same message in 7 times, means i get to use the phone more :)
even so, these are just software quirks that will probably be addressed by an update at some point, or certainly in 2.0

I can honestly say it's probably the best piece of hardware I've ever purchased, in terms of ease of use, functionality, performance, you name it. I waited WAY too long before buying it (~3 months after it first came out).

I had to pay a $165 termination fee w/Verizon as well, and I still don't regret it one bit.

The only thing I wished it had was a To-Do app icon, IMing capability as a default (without hacks), and ability to use landscape mode when writing (not just in Safari, but email & texting as well).

Disappointed with the iPhone? Hell no. It does pretty much everything I'd hoped it would do. Hell, I was on a business trip down south, and the iPhone managed everything for me, from tracking all my information, to reminding me of my different meetings, to giving me directions wherever I needed to go. My nano has been relegated to just gym use as the iPhone handles all my music needs.

I AM disappointed in Apple's follow up support for the iPhone. Pretty much every update they've done so far has been a few minor bug fixes slipped into packages designed solely to either protect or increase their revenue. I've got no problem with them wanting to make a buck, but it gets a little off-putting when they're practically trying to shove it down our throats. I don't expect them to ever address the major missing features you can find people talking about here (except 'maybe' in iPhone 2.0), and I expect their SDK will be a locked down and costly system that will bar pretty much all the cool apps we currently have via Installer. It's why I'm glad I'm pretty much happy with the iPhone as is.

Yes

VERY disappointed. I switched from Sprint, and the AT&T service is the worst reception I've ever had (I've has a cell phone for 10+ years!).

Calls drop DAILY. Many calls go right to voice mail. In most buildings I get NO reception where I had reception with Sprint.

Disappointed is an understatement.

You didn't think to check the actual coverage in your area before buying it? You just assumed it would be perfect? Depending on your area, coverage by carrier can vary widely.

If I were making such a big purchase/commitment, I would at least make sure the coverage in my area was decent before jumping to a 2 year contract blind.

I think many people expected too much. It's a great phone. For those expecting a God Phone, however, it is bound to disappoint.

Very pleased with mine. Nice Internet device, email tool, and phone. The video is a plus.

I finally went to an Apple store yesterday to check out the iPhone. Initially, I was totally uninterested, but over the past few months, I have really gotten interested in getting an iPhone. After checking it out in person, I may wait until iPhone 2.0 comes out and see how I feel.

Specifically, I was surprised (in a bad way)at how small it is. I see pictures and ads of people with this giant iPhones in their hands, but it was a lot smaller than I thought it would be.

Also, I was really surprised at just how slow the EDGE network is (the phone I was playing with was not connected to the Apple store's WiFi). What's the point of having full-fledged OS X and Safari if you're basically using 'wireless dial-up?'

Activation was a pain, but the iPhone is incredible. I feel like a spy with this thing. I will admit that the keyboard is going to take me a while to get used to tho, but I can easily live with that.

So would you say that you are disappointed in ATT rather than the iPhone. It's not the iPhones fault that ATT has terrible service in your area. I haven't been a real big fan of ATT since I bought the iPhone either they do have shoddy coverage even though on the map it showed full signal all around where I am. But I have to hand it to them they are getting better on iDay I had absolutely no signal in my house and about a month later I had full signal. Edge also ramped up in speed since launch, hopefully in a few more months they will get some better coverage for everyone.

No disappointment here. I was apprehensive about switching because of all the "AT&T is horrible" hoopla, but so far, coverage and service have been excellent.

It depends where you are and how many bars you have. I find that most of the time i can load a page fairly quickly. Not wifi like speeds for sure, but comortable speeds that i wouldnt complain about. On the other hand if you have 3 or 2 bars or less theres no point to trying to use EDGE, its just too slow.

I have had my iPhone 132 days (give/take) and I am happier today than ever! I have hacked for 3rd party applications (from Terminal to jailbreakme) but I love the phone absent of the hack as well.

None of the shortcomings even occured til I read about them here. If I had an event where I needed to multi-SMS I would use that once a year occasion to swap a SIM into my old phone (see also 2 minute task). My general feeling about mass texts is negative anyway. "Love you all! Have a Great Halloween! LOL Oh and if you don't remember me. Its all good xoxoxox!"

F*&% that!

Furthermore, the iPhone has a gorgeous screen. Why do I want someone's 0.3MP image/video sent to me compressed as a MMS?!

If the iPhone isn't for you, if these things features appeal to you get an LG somethingorother. For me, I've spent the last 9 years (Treo's - Samsung i730 - various other clamshell's) waiting for a phone that was made for me, THANK YOU APPLE; it's everything I could have asked for!

Not so much dissappointed, more surprised at the lack of video recording capabilities, obviously i haven't only just realised this feature was excluded, but what with Apples seemingly close relationship with youtube and owners Google i'm surprised they haven't put that feature in and also a method of automatically uploading clips to youtube, maybe a future update?
