Hey all,

I want to get the new series 2 watch for the improved performance, GPS and brighter screen, however I don't feel it's worth paying as much as I did last time for the stainless steel. I'm thinking of going aluminium this time, is anyone else? I'm undecided as to which colour, I think the grey looks the nicest but then not many bands will work well on it. The silver may be the most versatile but it looks a bit cheap?

Interested to get some discussion around this topic, has anyone already downgraded to aluminium or planning to do the same? Or are you going to stick to the stainless steel.

There is a similar thread here....

I have been having similar thought's between a SB SS model and a SG Aluminium model.... The way I see it with this kind of tech is it's going to be obsolete in 3 years, so it comes down to how much one want's to pay for the tech and how much for the fashion... An Aluminium watch is pretty much all tech, where as a basic SS watch is at least 33% fashion...

You raise a really good point. I already ordered two SS series 2. Oh well, maybe at the next time around...

I am switching from a SS to the Sport Black. I was really on the fence, but if I plan on upgrading when the next one comes out as well I am saving $200 each time. If they lowered the SS price, I would probably go back though.

Yes, I made the decision to downgrade, and I regret my SS purchase. I bought the SS primarily for the sapphire screen thinking it wouldn't get scratched, but it does have a few small surface scratches. I will sell the SS with my sport band that I barely used, and I will keep my SS band. I realized I would rather have the latest internals and the GPS than the SS/Sapphire so my money will be spent on upgrading that. I will probably put a screen protector on my new Aluminum Apple watch.

I downgraded from a SS to a space gray Sport (Series 0) this year, and will likely just stay with the aluminum for Series 2. Frankly, I think the aluminum with the nylon band looks better as a whole package than with either SS with the sports band. I also preferred the lighter weight, which is comparable to the Garmin that I alternate with.

I think the issue isn't so much the sapphire but the anti-glare coating. With the brighter screen, the coating is less necessary, so I wonder if they will eventually just stop coating the display.

I'm downgrading. Just can't justify paying that much for another SS watch. I wanted to buy this new generation for the GPS so that I don't have to run with my 6s plus. I also think I'll be keeping this one for a while as well.

The SS looks a lot better with certain attire, but I wear my mechanical watches when the occasion calls for it, so I will be sticking with the aluminum.

Thus far I've read quite a bit online about those buying the Aluminium, versus Stainless Steel. A good argument someone had was with upgrading yearly. Certainly something I need to keep in mind. However, I like the look of the Stainless Steel Space Black. AND, it seems to go with EVERY colour band. That's why I'd like to order that model (Series II). But, honestly, lower the price a little will ya Apple...

SS series 2 will be my first Apple Watch, I love how it looks.

I'm aiming to keep it for at least two versions, aiming to replace it when series 4 comes out. Unless its performance gets radically worse or the series 3 has some amazing updates.

At that stage, I might be in the same boat as some of you are now, sell my SS and downgrade to aluminium, that should bridge the upgrade price a bit better.

It really depends how much I like the look. I know a couple of people with black sports series 0 and I'm really not keen, they look far more like a piece of tech and just doesn't do it for me.

It's a tough choice. If I was an SS customer, I'd probably downgrade but I am an SS Space Black Apple Watch owner and the hardness and scratch-proof finish of that DLC coating has me locked in to another Space Black Series II I think. I can't really imagine going to a scratch-happy regular SS or an even scratchier aluminum. My GF has a sport with the ION-X glass and there are a lot of surface scratches on her watch face. My sapphire screen look great after a year. I think that's a huge advantage to staying SS.

I thought about it but I want to know how my space black link bracelet would look on the ceramic before I committed.
Totally fair. My guess is that it would look pretty great. I just plan to get a bunch of sport bands to go with it -- various blues, yellow, maybe orange -- in addition to the black and red (maybe white?) that I already own.

For the few small scratches on last years stainless and sapphire it would have totaled the aluminum mineral screen.
Going with Stainless for series 2

I have SS now and I am not sure if I will upgrade. If I do, it will most likely be to the SG sport. I would keep my SS and still wear it with a suit or business professional attire.

That's my thinking too. I LOVE the look of the Nike volt watch, but I'm nervous about how much abuse the exposed glass screen can take. I'll stick with my sapphire, and hope I can eventually get my hands on a Nike band.

Sold my Sport to buy another Sport. Couldn't justify spending $200 more for SS, especially after seeing the resale on the current gen in SS and how much still new SS versions were discounted. Yikes.

It is pretty brutal. Better off keeping it or giving it to someone.

Whether I wait until the next model, or upgrade to the Series 2, I'm thinking either Space Black or Space Grey, since I've found that I almost always just wear it on a black rubber band (originally bought with the SS link bracelet.) If I decide to start upgrading every year, I may just go with the Space Grey, since a year isn't a long time to collect scratches.

I'm downgrading from SS to gold aluminum, always loved the look of it. I was going to go with the Hermés, but after I ordered it I just couldn't justify it to myself. I love their bands, and own a few, but the amount it was going to cost just for the watch faces was too much. Maybe a few years down the line I'll revisit :)
