Toby: Didn't you lose a lot of money on that other investment? The email?

Michael Scott: You know what Toby, when the son of the deposed king of Nigeria emails you directly, asking for help, you help! His father ran the freaking country! Ok?

Not as though it will stop this guy from trying again, but the Ebay rep I am chatting with is canceling this guy's Ebay account.

I will post a new thread with everything I learned here to help others avoid this.

He send a fraudulent PayPal confirmation email.

His mistake, he sent it to my personal address. I get all paypal email at my work account.

He had previously requested my paypal email when requesting an invoice, but I have never given it out before so I knew that wasn't necessary. So he took a chance that I used the same email (or wouldn't notice).

I felt it was fishy from the beginning and my instincts were dead on.

Interesting.

Not sure why people ask about and fall for these tactics. Your first warning should have been NIGERIA. Your second warning is the extra shipping money. Your third thing should have been the fact that logging into your paypal account showed NO FUNDS. Lol.

These threads humor me.

Nigeria Paypal scam: Nigerian buys something and pays through paypal. He claims that you're protected under buyer protection but you are not. In order to be protected you have to ship to a verified paypal address, only thing is paypal doesn't operate in Nigeria so there can't be a verified address there. Then he claims he never received the product and gets a refund and your screwed. So Nigeria = NO!!

Most deffinatley a scam, refund the money and relist the item

Also you are obviously inexperienced at selling as there is no such thing as a hold on funds till someone gives feedback/ receives item.

The reason behind the hold is probably a seller with a low feedback rating or his PayPal account isn't "Premier" status.

In those cases, PayPal puts a hold on the money until the buyer marks the item received, or after 45-60 days

And alas, as this materialized, it became quite apparent to me.

I didn't post for condescension and ridicule. I posted to verify what I thought to be true. To those that helped, thank you. To those that essentially called me a clueless idiot, you are not helpful. You only make yourself look like a elitist jerk.

Actually the red flags came to me in this order:
Jumping on the $225 buy it now for an 8gb 3G that had 0 bids
Nigeria
Hidden ebay profile
Requesting my paypal email with the invoice total - really started to think scam
Paying the extra money-99% sure scam
Sending me a separate email outside of eBay
Checking my paypal to see no funds had been deposited-WTF, just got the email
Realized the email came to wrong address and was fraudulent (actually looked very real)-100% certain of scam.

I have a premier account and I'm verified and have a confirmed address. I also am a 11 Year Ebay member with zero negative feedbacks. My feedback number is 38. I've purchase many high priced items $250-600 range. I was told that it's because my feedback needs to reach 100 for it to not hold my payments on high risked items.

Also Nigeria would get owned by the USA in soccer, just like we beat the other "geria" Algeria:D:D:D
