I am going to have to bring my charger to work. That's what it comes down to. It's a pain, but if that's what I am going to have to do to use my phone at work all day, then that's what I'll do. Needless to say, I am dissapointed.

As someone who has used smartphones for years, in varying models and from varying vendors, you will not get much better from a similar media capable phone. If you use media functions heavily, you're going to see reduced battery life.

Getting another sync cable and using it to charge from your office computer via USB isn't that much and will be more convenient than bringing your wall charger with you.

If the battery life is such a big problem for you then buy a power case for the phone and triple the battery life.

Problem solved.

Do you really think that the entire world wants to carry a giant brick of a phone to get the kind of battery life that only 1% of users require?

Most of us aren't listening to our iPods streaming or watching video on it for 10 hrs a day.

If you do those things then buy a battery case or leave it plugged in all day.

Sheesh!

As horrible a habit this is, if my iPhone's battery dips below 100%, it bothers me so much until I can have it plugged in. It really stinks, because I love my iPhone like no other phone I've ever owned (being 13, it's my second as I upgraded from a Verizon flip phone ). This is where external battery cases come in handy. I'm actually heading out to my local Apple Store very soon to check out a Mophie Juice Pack Air. Hopefully, this will make me use my iPhone a lot more!

Like what? I don't know of any other phone that can stream audio from the internet over WiFi or 3G for 10 hours.

Even if it could stream for 15 hours or 20 hours there would still be some group of whiners complaining it didn't meet their needs.

The stupid thing is that there are plenty of ways if mitigating this problem, such as plugging the phone in when working at a computer, using a battery extender case on the phone, etc.

Apple has (wisely) erred on the side of creating a device that is very very portable vs making it bulky to bump the battery life a little bit.

News flash, even with an external battery case your battery is going to go below 100%

Just remove the battery percentage and leave just the icon. Much less stressful.

I've got to agree with you there. I was never stressed with my 2G battery life, but since I activated battery percentage I started paying waay too much attention to it. Needless to say I've since turned it off and am trying to relax, lol.

You're 13, go fly a kite.

I've found that turning off the battery percentage is nice for the user who is faint of heart.

I am not afraid to use it but I have a bad habit of charing my phone while at home and using it. Today, I am attempting to keep it off the charger completely and use it normally until I go to bed. We'll see what my battery is at in about 10 hours or so. It's been off the charger for about 3 and a half hours with some emailing and texting, and it's at 92%.

I also found using the battery percentage made me focus more on the battery life. Since then i have turned it off and i've been paying a lot less attention to it. This is my first iphone so i can't compare it to a 3g.

Turn all the battery draining ***** that you don't need on, off. It doubled my battery life turning off wi-fi, 3g and location services. the majority of users do not need these on all the time and they just drain the battery, turn them off and then turn them on when needed and you battery will last much longer.

I can't compare this to prior gens, but I am disappointed with the battery life. I have an hour long commute to work. I started out the morning at 100%. I texted a little, listened to some songs, and checked email once on the way to work and by the time I parked at work I was down to 85%. To me that seems like a pretty large percentage drop for an hour of moderate usage.

One of the biggest things I've noticed about battery life is the initial iPhone user's wow factor. It's constantly played with (most likely with every battery draining feature turned on), and all this combined results in horrible battery life.

But then a routine will probably set in, and battery life is much more 'normal' (for that user, being whatever 'normal' is).

I've settled into charging mine 1.5 times per day (since Aug '07), and it's probably in use in some fashion 40-50% of my day (either for business or reading/surfing/listening). Needless to say I have a charger at my desk, in the car, in my backpack, etc.

My wife OTOH, charges hers about every 3-4 days.

i've been bringing my cable to work with me... but i ordered 2 charging cable from monoprice yesterday so that i can leave one at work (and one for hubby)

i already have an iGo tip for the car for my ipod... so i'm all set since it's the same tip!

Why are you disappointed? Show me another small form factor device that can stream music all day long running on batteries.

So what's so important on wunderradio that you have to listen to?

Ok, I have the very first iPhone still and upgrading to the 3GS tomorrow. I have no problems with the iPhone original battery. I've used it for about 2 hours so fa and I'm guessing I'm about 5% or less down. I've done about 20 texts so far. Listened to my iPod for about an hour and now web browsing. I have my settings as followed. No push, no fetch, brightness: 40% ish, WiFi on, location services on, and notifications from AIM. But the only time I see a major drain in battery life is when using graphic intensive preformaning games such as peggle or bejeweled 2. That means games, other than that my batter gives me about an hour of talk time, over 200 texts a day, an hour or more of listening to music (usually more cause I drive a lot), some web surfing usually via WiFi, and it lasts me the day or 2. I've actually gotten 2 days out of it a lot. Ya, I don't have 3G but I will disable it when I'm not using it. I'm not stupid. And if worse comes to worse I have a great car charger that has a sync cable you can get from the apple store for $30 and it's belkin. So you can take the cord in with you to work and bring it out afterwards. I have it just in case I forgot to charge the night before. :p

I just bought a Mophie Juice pack to use while I have MotionXGPS going on MTB rides. I really like it, maybe that's an option.

I LOVE my black Mophie Juice Pack Air...this thing is AWESOME...I'm a power user and the MJPA gives you all the power you could possibly need and more and acts as a very nice case for $79.00. Best accessory I have ever purchased for an iPhone...
