I'm very excited for it! For church, I have to train people to do the recording of the sermon.. and now it will be simple! for $5.. my church can put it on 5 iPads! That's $1 an iPad! (not that we will use 5 iPads, just an example).

Am I right that you can use the headphone jack for the input? Or do you need a USB interface?

Why can you buy one version and put it on several devices? How would you use this for recording sermons?

If they're all synced to the same iTunes account it would work. No idea about the second question

Hell yes! I've used some okay iPad music apps, but what I've really been waiting for is garageband. The biggest thing here is the iPad form factor. It's mobile, way more mobile than even a macbook air. To be able to make music in any environment that inspires you, that really is a big deal.

Yes.

If there ever was a breathtaking moment in this (rather dull) presentation, it was when they showed the pressure sensitive piano keys in Garage Band. Holy crap!

It seems a LOT of work and care went into the sampling of these instruments, and the interface looks fantastic.

If I'm getting an iPad 2, it will be because of Garage Band. I'm not kidding.

At $4.99 it's the software bargain of the year. It could easilly have been $49.99 and still excellent value.

Marketing speak aside, when Steve said young people would spend hours upon hours of making music on this, I actually believed him. Because this looks like a winner, plain and simple.

Again: Holy crap.

There's also the StudioDock from Alesis...

and the SynthStation 49 from Akai Pro...

which should play nicely with GarageBand for the iPad.

Yep. Garageband was definitely one of the most impressive parts of the presentation. Day one purchase for me. I can't wait to see what kinds of stuff I can produce from it.

Is there sync capability with the desktop Garageband?.

There's a great iOS wireless midi Garageband controller, in the app store that I use, but this is a great addition.

Not sure. I do believe they said at least it saves Garageband compatible files so you can offload your project to the actual Garageband.

If it were not for this and iMovie I would not even consider an iPad (either version).

Yes, it will sync projects and files with iTunes that can be edited in the big boy version for OSX. iOS 4.3 will have better home file sharing too.
