I've never been a large phone fan but after having the 12 Pro since launch day it feels like the PM is the way to go for me.

5G is using more battery, 12PM has larger battery plus a new sensor technology (that I am hoping) will be a huge upgrade from the 12 Pro.

The 12 Pro is going back, then going to spend a week or two with the PM and hopefully settle for the PM. Worst case I may actually return the PM and stick with the iPhone 11 for another year.

We all have chooses in life. Apple chose to delay the Max Pro and I chose to try the regular Pro. I also went this route as I didn’t feel like continuing to pay installments after I was already eligible for an upgrade. Also I wanted to get a chance to sell my Max Pro before everyone else floods ebay with their phones. Even though I won’t end up turning my phone in, the more payments made the less of a chance to recoup any money.
This is the best post so far to defend it. Has reasons other than impatience why it is a good idea. Either way, no one is breaking any rules, and Apple should have restock fees for returns that aren't defective or Apple error to discourage it if they don't want it.

Great point! I have never bought directly from Apple before (always through carriers), and I am surprised reading about all of the people who have bought multiple phones and returned the ones they did not want, or try and then return. Not judging, but was just surprised that it is this easy with Apple!

My question then is, doesn't Apple lose out with this practice- having to sell these returned phones as open box or refurbs at a lower price?

Edit:
And again to be clear, I am not judging. I like this relaxed model they have- I am thinking of ordering the Mini when the time comes, and will see if the PWM from the screen bothers me. If not, I will happily keep it and sell my 11. If it does, I will return it and be so glad there is not a $40 restocking fee like the carriers have.

I'm on the fence. I had the 11P and was going to go for the Max this year, but since I frequently use my phone with one hand, I went with the 12P instead. It still feels bigger, and the flat edges make it a lot boxier in my pocket. I like the smaller size, but the battery life on this phone is no better and possibly worse than my 11P. That phone is a year old; I don't want my newest device to have the same battery life. I would prefer the smaller size, I think, but I am let down by its performance in that regard.

Also, I know this isn't the thread for this, but my 11P was lagging when I opened messages and started typing. Nothing would come up for the first few words, then everything came up at once. My 12P is now doing this too. I didn't buy this with the intent of returning, but now that's what I may end up doing.
I have this bug, too, along with many of my friends. It's a glitch with iOS 14 that will persist until Apple fixes it, hopefully with 14.2.

I'm a woman with small hands, so I never thought I'd like a large phone. But when the 8 came out I went from the 6S to the 8 plus, and surprisingly it took me no time to adapt. Now I don't think I'd want to go back to a smaller phone.

I’ve actually noticed a lot of women like larger phones, probably because carrying in the purse is no problems at all for them?

Yeah I was one of the ones that bought a 12 Pro to just test until the Pro Max came out since I always picked the bigger phone. But I am now having serious doubts as this phone seems to be the perfect size for me. It took a few days for my eyes to adjust to the smaller size but I’m enjoying my phone so much now. I’m so confused now. Lol. Really would prefer to stay at this size but I know once the Max arrives that part of me that only wants the best will be rearing it’s ugly little head.

Isn’t that, like, bad for the environment? When you’re buying a device to pass time until the one you actually want is released? What does Apple or the respective reseller do with the device you gave back? 🤔

What this return practice does is put a huge unnecessary strain on Apples supply chain, while meaning others who actually intend to buy and keep said iPhone - cant get one til far later.

I think it’s pretty selfish to deliberately take someones place in line, just so you can return it in 2 weeks.

Just my 2 cents..

Not saying I approve of the practice, but believe that Apple either sells these phones as refurbs or recycles them. Their return for any reason within 14 days policy encourages this behavior and apparently doesn't hurt their bottom line.

It’s not really an Apple thing. This is law in Europe. We can return anything we buy without question except a few things, such as, used underwear or lipstick etc.

Yea, except now you have a person who has owned/gotten rid of 2 of Apples iPhones in the same year. Meaning double the manufacturing and recycling process, meaning double the carbon footprint. Doesn't matter how hard Apple tries to look after the environment, some people are too selfish to give a sh*t.

But have you actually experienced bad battery life or is it because a few alarmist have you worried. I haven’t experienced any problems with battery. Lol. My phone easily gets through a day. Now the Pro Max was a beast but it was a beast with its size too. lol.

Some days I had to charge it because I needed a little bit more, with a Pro Max I didn’t have this problem. But you can easily have one day battery life if your use is “normal”

The truth is Apple gives a **** about the environment only if its for profit gain and most people don’t give a **** at all.

While there’s no denying there’s a cost (environmental and financial) involved in refurbishing a phone to be resold, I would wager it’s likely to be significantly less than that of building a whole new handset.

More importantly though, you have to keep in mind this forum has a disproportionate number of fanatics on it relative to the general public. You might be drawn to suspect that there are thousands of people taking advantage of Apple’s return policy for frivolous reasons (i.e. buying two phones just to decide on a colour), but I suspect the actual number of people doing this is actually quite small. Simply put, the “average consumer” isn’t doing this.

In any event, if enough people were doing it to make a dent in Apple’s bottom line, rest assured the company would discontinue the practice in a flipping second.

I thought I could go from the 11 Pro Max to the 12 Pro, but I'm probably returning the 12 Pro for the 12 Pro Max. I picked up my 11 Pro Max yesterday, and I was reminded just how much I prefer the largest iPhone.
I did the same thing.
Have already Fedex sent that 12 Pro back.
just too small, it felt like a toy to me next to 11PMax.
Threw away the box for the clear MagSafe case, so can’t return it.
I’ll be up next Friday for preorder 12PMax 128 Gold

After some thought, I decided I'm going to return the 12 Pro and get the 12 Pro max. I'll initiate the return on 11/5/2020 and Pre-order the 12 Pro Max on 11/6/2020. I guess 1 week of going back to the 11 Pro Max.

So with that logic, would you like your "brand new $1200 iPhone" to be a refurbished phone? I bet if you had the choice, you would pick a brand new over a refurbished every day of the week?

I've been solely using max-sized iPhones since Apple first offered them (6 Plus). My wife got her 12 Pro a week ago and I spent some time trying it out. Next thing I know, I'm placing an in-store pickup order for a 12 Pro. I've had it now since Sunday and am convinced that I will stick with this size. The larger iPhones have always been at the upper end of my comfort and pocketability level, and have always been too heavy. I'm now finding that, after years with a Max, I am actually fine with the screen size of the non-Max phone, and it is way more comfortable to hold and use. I am a photography enthusiast, but while I wish I had the Max's improvements, I am coming from an Xs Max so the 12 Pro's camera improvements are still massive for me. Just took a bunch of night mode photos during some evening kayaking last night, and they came out stunning. While I'm giving up the larger sensor and other improvements, the "camera I have with me" will be super comfortable to hold and use, and that's important too.

I actually carry it in my front jeans pocket a lot, but I don't wear skinny low rise jeans. I went from the 6S to the 8 plus I was mostly worried about my hand being too small. But it really isn't an issue for me, even 1 handed.
