I'm still confused. Another poster suggested to get the regional and somehow you'll get USA. How is this possible when you purchase a regional package?

I believe the poster stated to buy the regional app for $20 or whatever the price is. And then you are supposed to get the fresh maps application for $15 and you'll be benefited with getting full US maps and map updates every 3 months for at least two years. I hope this make sense.

Do you have to buy fresh maps initially or can you wait?

I downloaded Eastern but I don't see option to get fresh maps for entire USA.

Update: I paid $19.99 for Eastern version. A poster suggested to choose regional then update to fresh maps to get entire USA.

The fresh maps upgrade is $24.99. So the total for entire USA by this means is $45.

However you can purchase entire USA initially for $29.99.

What's going on here?

It might have been a black Friday sale, I'm not too sure. Hopefully you don't have to spend $45 when you can get everything for $30 :/

Note that you'll get map updates every 3 months for at least 2 years though. Gl with your purchase

The sale is still on I'm assuming.

So with a total of $45( Eastern + fresh maps) I'll get updates every 3 months for entire USA compared to if I got the $29.99 for entire USA I would get updates?

I have to admit this is confusing and I'm not a happy camper now. I could have gotten entire USA for $29.99. Now I have to spend the $19.99 I already did + $24.99 to get entire USA.

The idea of getting the region + the Map purchase was to gain all North American Maps, not just US. The North American App is $40. That includes Canada, Puerto Rico, etc.

Not sure what you meant, but basically you would only get map updates when Navigon releases them, say for example 2.1, etc.

I know its confusing, but i hope you kind of get it.

Personally it might have been better if you just bought the US version for $30 as i think even yearly map updates are fine. Either way i think you are getting a good deal.

Happy tomtom user here. US version was 32 in app store recently. I've had mine a while now and really enjoy it.

Tried Garmin once but didn't really like it over tomtom. Routing was less effective from my experience.

I figured out how to request a refund via iTunes. I'm going to request a refund then purchase the entire USA for $29.99. I hope iTunes will be able to do this.

I wish the responses were much clear on this thread.

I don't see it in the app store for $30. Where are you guys seeing this price?

Navigon is $30. Tom-tom is $32. Garmin is $50. It's all in the App Store on my iPhone.

Same. No $30 Garmin like some say.

it was a one day sale like previously stated. I would definitely jump on navigon or tom-tom if you are in need of a navigation system. I think the consensus is they are both better than Garmin. I have 0 issues with navigon. gl with your purchase.

Just wanted to point out that you can also purchase a $50 gift card from BB for $40 to use for your app purchases.

Wish I really knew what was better. I like Garmin maps, always have, but I see bad reviews on the App store for Navigon. :/

Those are almost all about the change in maps, not about the app itself. They feel that they should get the maps free for life and with the new change to Navigon that doesn't happen. Nor does anyone else offer that, at least not that I know of (with onboard maps), since maps cost money.

Most of the wave of negative reviews are from people who just bought Navigon before the change. So I can see how they might feel upset, even though they will likely see no real difference in the maps. I have a stand alone GPS from 2006 that has never been updated and still is 95% functional (it probably started at 97% lol).

But in the incessant complaining they also seemingly ignore any of the benefits of the latest update. I for one think the update is good. I live in Arizona, and often have business in CA. I am also right on the CA border and very close to the NV border. So I only need AZ, CA, and NV loaded most of the time. That cuts the Navigon installation way down and I consider that a nice benefit. I am talking from 2GB down to less than 200MB.

There were other ramifications to the older "super-sized installation" too: since the whole package is copied over to the iOS device, and then installed from there, you pretty much need twice the space available just to be able to install it (this is true for any iOS app). Many times I had to delete other apps or media just to get Navigon to load at all. That problem is now gone as the initial installation is much smaller (no maps).

But I am still puzzled by features that are missing. I can't find a simulation mode, for example. And there is no excuse for forcing address entry as if it was a 1990's era stand alone GPS unit: give us free form address entry already that allows pasting in an address.

I have also been playing around with MotionX GPS Drive more and more and it's really growing on me. Aside from on-board maps it has more features than Navigon by far (with the notable exception of speed limits). I am going to test it today for a road trip. I have chosen to pre download the maps for the route and will turn on airplane mode to see how well that works.
