The new Air announcement:
  1. Looked chonky.
  2. Is expensive.
  3. Brought a notch which I haven't seen a single person prefer.
  4. Lacked the anticipated 15" model.
How many of you were not impressed with the new Air?

How many of you would have greatly preferred if Apple just made exactly what was rumored last year, even if it may be a bit less powerful?

Just curious if anyone else had their hopes shattered, and felt disappointment with the WWDC presentation.

It reminded me of the iPad Mini 6

It was basically a form factor change with a slight, and expected after a couple years, bump to the internals

A very iterative change.
Not amazing, but good I suppose -- but with some subjective tradeoffs as always

(for instance, I really really loved the wedge and am sad to see that go)

Did you really expect Apple to supply a 15" MBA? That was a long shot. I was hoping they would return to the 12" models that were ultra compact. But then that might impact iPad sales.

I like it well enough, the new design looks smart, the M2 chip provides plenty enough performance for this class of machine, expanding the screen to make use of all available space is a good choice, the pricing was fully expected. My main reservation would be how the speakers sound without actual speaker outlets, Apple's been so good on this it would be a shame if they mucked it up to save $0.0001 machining costs.

The 15.2" is expected for late next year from that flurry of information we got earlier in the year.

My wife is daily using an 11" Mid 2012 MBA with 64GB for her private practice, and she loves it.

While it still runs circles around her work (other job) provided new Windows laptop in terms of performance and battery life, I was thinking of getting her a new MBA as soon as one came out with MagSafe again.

Now that new MBA is finally out, I am hesitant, because she was thinking of leaving her private practice, not abruptly, but just not pursuing any new clients as others are discharged.

So, not sure if I want to spend over $1k on a device that she may not need in a year or two.

Also, happy the white bezels did not make the cut :)
Yeah, that would have not been good.

Quite the opposite - I'm very pleased.

1) It may look "chonky" but its all-around thickness is 0.19" thinner than the maximum thickness of the M1 Air, and it's 0.1 lb lighter.

2) Yes, it's $100-200 more than I was hoping to pay. Over the course of 5+ years of ownership, that's negligible.

3) The notch is really a non-issue for me. The display itself is physically larger, and now the menu bar has a dedicated space with 64 extra pixels on the vertical.

4) You may have anticipated a 15" model, but I never saw any credible predictions that we'd see one.

The M2 MBA has the two features I was most hoping for - MagSafe and a better webcam - and thus I will be buying one as soon as I can.

The Aor is fantastic.

It’s thinner than the previous air at it’s thickest point (can’t wait to see it in person because that’s really thin), it looks great (very industrial), fanless, and great specs.

I’m hoping for a “MacBook” that is 15-ish inches, single fan design replacing the 13” MBP.

My ideal would have been the same physical form factor, except:
  • One Thunderbolt/USB-C port moved to the right side
  • Same colors as the new iMac (plus Space Gray)
  • White keyboard on all colors except Space Gray
  • White bezels
  • 13” model replaced with 12” and 14” models. 12” starting at $999 and 14” starting at $1199

They're just making decisions based on the marketing department again. Bring back the engineers.

I hated the taper, though. And the Arrow keys used to be cool, but now they have a space above the left and right arrows. Dumb.
The space above the left and right arrows is inherently useful for finding the keys and positioning your fingers on them without looking. I don't think I have ever had a keyboard, full-sized or laptop, that had anything but the inverted T design. There's a reason that it is indeed the standard, and I am glad to see Apple using it.

I have never had a problem with "finding" the arrow keys. I like the extra button height (to push) and uniformity. Also looks aesthetically nicer.

Hi I prefer the notch it’s more screen been here for ever.

The new MacBook Air is great

The 15 inch wasn’t rumored to be an air it’s just a MacBook.

It’s thin especially compared to the other MacBook pros

This is what was widely rumored just in more colors in fact it’s better because they don’t have that ugly white keyboard.

I think if your hopes were “shattered” you might be a bit out of touch with reality

1-dont care rly

2-yes it is ,even more so if u live in eu

3-and that notch also means that the screen in fullscreen mode is effectively 13.3,meaning you gain no space, unless u use menu bar ,you'll have no gain

4-wasnt anticipated for this year ya know, more like m3 i belive...and even that is just a rumor

but basically,it is more expensive, whilst coming at a mere 8/256,bringing perf improvements that you'd think are normal for a device released 2 years after its predecessor

screen is nicer with higher brightness ,but still lcd.i presume it has better response times and contrast or at least i hope so,mba m1 display is horrendous.but still these improvments are within expectations for a gen 2 device eh. i never rly expected mini led tho,and if u were you are a fool ,mba always retained "******" screens long after the pros get their switch.

perfs as i said are expected to be better otherwise whats the point

magsafe is nice but it's ,again, the kinda improvements u expect from a newer device .

battery seems to be similar nay exactly the same i think, which is rather surprising considering m2 is based on 15 which is much more effective+new mba has a bigger battery than m1 .dont rly get it tbh

1080p webcam but if its the same as mbp 14 then its ******.and in fact it may be worse fwiw lol

still 1 display. still tb3 and not tb4.still the same ports,on the same side (although i prefer it that way i think most would rather a port on each side). still wifi 6 and bt 5.0...

it's literally thinner and weighs less lmao?

it's more powerful than most laptops in its category and the build quality is superior.

macrumors has been beating the horse about the notch for 5 long years, I wonder if it it ever gets tiring. never once has it bothered me or worsened my user experience to the point it has been unusable. you'd think with the way people act like its the end of the world every time they see a notch, they would just move on to other platforms.

I like it well enough and I was expecting a price increase. The design looks nice but I am not a fan of the notch but I am sure that I will get used to it when the time comes. For now, I think that my M1 MacBook Air will be just fine.

The main thing I find disappointing is the pricing in Europe and the stinted starting configuration.
I would also prefer a larger model like the rumoured 15" version and nanotexture coating for the screen (not very fond of glare screens). However I didn't expect to see the former already and I suspect the latter will come to the Pro first.
Overall, it's a neat device and my first impression was a positive one.

1.) It Looks great and is similar to the Pro Design while keeping it Thin.
2.) If u still complain Apple Computers are expensive why don't u buy a Samsung or HP Low Cost Laptop
3.) The Notch is great as ti gives more screen space by shifting the Menu Bar Up and freeing the Space for Apps Real estate.
4.) A 15" Model doesn't make sense in a Light and Portable Laptop for Students and Normal Users. There always been only a 11" and a 13.3" MacBook Air

glossy coating make the display so much more defined though, and the blacks are much better in a well lit environment
