Quite the opposite - I'm very pleased.

1) It may look "chonky" but its all-around thickness is 0.19" thinner than the maximum thickness of the M1 Air, and it's 0.1 lb lighter.

2) Yes, it's $100-200 more than I was hoping to pay. Over the course of 5+ years of ownership, that's negligible.

3) The notch is really a non-issue for me. The display itself is physically larger, and now the menu bar has a dedicated space with 64 extra pixels on the vertical.

4) You may have anticipated a 15" model, but I never saw any credible predictions that we'd see one.

The M2 MBA has the two features I was most hoping for - MagSafe and a better webcam - and thus I will be buying one as soon as I can.
I'm right with you. I'm buying one ASAP too.

I was expecting much lighter. .1 lbs is barely lighter.

The brighter screen is a big deal. I prefer the new form factor as well.

I wish they would give us black. This midnight looks too blue to me and I'm hearing rumblings that it is a fingerprint magnet. Regardless that is the color I'd get as I'm tired of the other colors.

Lastly, man do I wish they'd make a 15" MBA. Supposedly coming next year.

Those threads are the proof our society is sick. Macbook Air M2 is just incredible piece of technology. But if 1 on 1000 doesn’t like it he feel urgent to write about how much dislike the new model on forums, usually exaggerating and cherry picking other things just to scream to the world.
Now I will buy one just because this thread and yes I love the notch, compared tor forums reality is quite the opposite: everyone loves to have bigger screen and appreciate notch solution.

I was hoping for it to be a bit cheaper than the PRO,
but it seems it will actually cost about $100 more to buy the Air (16GB / 512GB) compared to base 14 PRO.

Guess I´ll have top see it in person and see if the extra money seems worth it.

The only thing I don’t like about it is the vague future release date. I’m more a fan of announce it when it’s ready to go live. Now I have to wait! (Partially sarcastic)

If I was in the market for a new Air then I would be perfectly happy with the M2 option, but I also agree with OP's criticisms and would add

- still only one external display
- low RAM/SSD for the price and extortionate upgrade prices

Also I was hoping for something a bit more... radical? It felt like a collection of modest incremental upgrades. All very nice but would have been great to see something new, like a 15 inch or 11 inch Air, or a screen size boost to 14 inches. Or maybe a new feature that we have been waiting for, like in-display webcam (avoiding the notch) or FaceID, or OLED, or Wifi 6e.

It's a leap forward from M1, but I think there is still plenty of room for improvement when M3 rolls around.

Timing:
I'm a parent with college-bound students. Hoping this logic is flawed but with orders taken sometime in July, it may be a September delivery. Currently the Pro 14" shows an Aug 20 delivery. Most parents shopping for a new or returning student may naturally gravitate to the 13" model, but with no clear expectations on a delivery date, you're struggling to make that purchase to send your kid off by mid- to late August move in. It just seems like Apple missed the opportunity to market these new M2 and have it in stock for returning students.

Did you really expect Apple to supply a 15" MBA? That was a long shot. I was hoping they would return to the 12" models that were ultra compact. But then that might impact iPad sales.
A 12" model was always unlikely because it would require a smaller keyboard. The old 12" models had a wider bezel which would now be considered clunky.

Orders should begin later this month if Apple says "available next month."

MBP is assembled by Quanta only. MBA is Foxconn and Quanta so lead time should be shorter if you order early.

Yes. The rumor mill has been frothing at the mouth over a 15" MBA for years. There's been credible reports Apple are working on one and have prototypes.

I think there's a ton of demand for such a product, a decently fast ultra-light thanks to Apple silicon that has a huge screen. My personal hope is they release the prototype, instead of shelving it, and figure out how to remove all notches from their whole lineup. :)

I am not disappointed with how it looks, but UK pricing is outrageous. I naively believed Apple using their own silicon in their computers would allow them to lower the prices of their machines as there would be no more "Intel tax". Instead everything has become drastically more expensive.

A Mac is no longer an impulse purchase. The baseline spec is almost always next to useless, so the step up to the next model is when things start to get out of hand with pricing.

That’s kinda my feeling. This machine at US$999 would have been a game changer. At $1200 for 8/256 it’s a lot less compelling. Apple needs to get a handle on their pricing.
