Let’s just say I’m glad you don’t work for Apple. :). Port on the other side: yes. All the other stuff: it’s time for an eye exam. Haha.
Yeah I think I’m definitely in the minority with these opinions but I’m just all for consistency across the lineup.

Ultimately they had me at Black Bezels and keyboard. They had me frothing at that Midnight blue, that is just sexy as all get-out. While I’m not thrilled about the price bump, I can live with it because frankly everything is getting more expensive and honestly we should expect a similar bump in September to the new iPhones.
As for the notch, there are ways to make it black and match the bezel of the lid so you won’t even notice it. It’s stupid and unnecessary but Apple seems to have a thing about notches lately so it is what it is.

Everything is good about the new MBA M2… design, screen, camera, MagSafe..., and more potential with upgrades, and then the one big problem - the price. The base model is getting up there in price with still only 8GPU/8CPU, 8Gb of unified memory, and 256Gb storage - how much faster compared to the M1 will that really be? Not what APPLE is saying except with the upgraded 10-core GPU, and then will it be able to handle the thermals? Upgrade it with the 10 core GPU, 16Gb, and 512Gb and the price is getting uncomfortably close to a similar configuration MBP 14” without all its advantages. Can’t afford the MBP 14”, just feels wouldn’t be getting a good deal on an upgraded MBA M2 with the MBP value/price comparison. Would be nice to get the latest and greatest features and M2, but maybe the old MBA M1 is still the low-end champ.

It's a great update overall. The new colours are lovely.
But, 16GB / 512GB is a minimum in 2022 imho. And that configuration sets the price close to that of the MBP 14" which has other things to offer. So, unless form factor and weight are paramount, I think it's not a great buy vs the MBP 14".
Inflation is tough and margins must be kept.

Those complaining about weight. I see the lot of you stuffing down 370g (or more) worth of burgers, fries and donuts at lunch but ya’ll aint complaining abt that additional weight you have to carry around after lunch?
It weighs less than the M1 Air, so I don't think anyone is complaining about that.

It reminded me of the iPad Mini 6

It was basically a form factor change with a slight, and expected after a couple years, bump to the internals

A very iterative change.
Not amazing, but good I suppose -- but with some subjective tradeoffs as always

(for instance, I really really loved the wedge and am sad to see that go)
The iPad mini 6 was the biggest change ever in the mini, and this was probably the biggest change to the air, so in a sense you are right.

The new Air announcement:
  1. Looked chonky.
  2. Is expensive.
  3. Brought a notch which I haven't seen a single person prefer.
  4. Lacked the anticipated 15" model.
How many of you were not impressed with the new Air?

How many of you would have greatly preferred if Apple just made exactly what was rumored last year, even if it may be a bit less powerful?

Just curious if anyone else had their hopes shattered, and felt disappointment with the WWDC presentation.
I agree with it looking chunky, like the new pros it looks like something from 2007, at least when it's closed. I'm coming around to the new lid shape though, even if it definitely looks less graceful.

Obviously it's going to be expensive, it's an Apple product, but Macbook Airs are still very affordable, they don't cost more than phones!

They didn't "add a notch", they removed the bezel except for a small piece in the center.

How much faster? The M1 is already faster than you need. Unless you're a video editor or something, and then you should buy a Pro with M1 Ultra.

I also don't like the new design. Huge feet, lack of wedge, the notch, square-like design etc. It doesn't look as elegant as before.

Also what happened to the MacBook ads? Just compare the old one and the new one:

The M2 Air is a pass for me. I would have instantly bought a 12" MacBook successor with M1/2. Apple keeps bragging about how the M chips enable them to design powerful, silent and light-weight Macs, but so far they haven't leveraged these chips to revive the lightest MacBook ever. If it was possible with Intel it should certainly be possible with M.

They didn’t sell like they wanted them too. Period. The Air is their best-selling laptop. That’s why it’s still around.

The 12" single usbc port was really a struggle to use, for me at least. It was also priced high above Air then, so the M2 Air is actually in a similar position as the 12", with much less constraints than the 12". Interesting to see how many pays $200 more for the M2 this time around.

Form factor perhaps, but I'd argue pretty strongly that the "biggest change" (at least in terms of actual impact on the product) was when it went Retina

The next truly big change, I think, will again be on the screen front and if (hopefully) it gets ProMotion at some point.

The Mini 6 screen, quality wise, is virtually unchanged and practically indistinguishable from its predecessor (I have a mini5 and have had a Mini 6 next to it several times)
