I like the look of the first one with the complications in the corners.

TxWatch
Right, so do I --

But, doggone, they're small and hard to read. Some complications which use more interesting icons, like Dark Sky's, would be just plain difficult.

We've talked before about how it would be nice to have a proper rectangular face besides the Hermes edition. There's the Tank from Cartier mentioned by Jony Ive, and I'd also be keen on a 1940's Bulova design like my grandpa's watch. But, I think it would be hard to add complications without making the result a wreck and a tangle. (to borrow a quote from Harry Monster)

So how do you get the Hermes watch face? I finally got on board and got my watch today. I'm sending in my primary watch I hear daily, my Omega Seamaster GMT tp Switzerland for service, maintanance and they'll fix it right on up so it will continue to last me for quite awhile.

Can you get the Hermes face or other faces like that relatively easily?

Thanks all!! :)

As far as I know, it's only available on the Hermes editions...

I'm not "bored" with the watch faces, just dissatisfied. The vast majority of them remind me of watches I owned 3-7th grade. I like the Hermes face but not paying $1100 for it. I would like to see some more traditional watch faces. Perhaps Apple doesn't want an IP fight like they had when they copied the Swiss Railways clock in iOS6 (ended up paying $20m or so for the infringement.)

The obvious solution is to do 3rd party watch faces, and shift the liability to other developers. If a guy in his bedroom comes out with a clone of a movado, the movado the company will be a lot less apt to track him down and sue. Meanwhile us AW owners will with a diverse set of watch faces with all different functionalities. I am ok with the regimented uniformity on iOS, but I want to have a highly personalized watch face for style, and functionality over what Apple has offered

I'm all for the simplistic and classic looking watch faces, with a twist.. I use Practical all day, because it looks classic and beautiful and still packs some additional information - more of those thanks

But Movado will attempt to go after Apple. Even if not successful, I'm certain Apple doesn't want the expensive headache.

That said, Apple does need to let the creativity juices flow with some additional watch faces. Maybe wOS 3?

Remember it may just be possible that Apple are using this as a key reason to get you to upgrade either to watch v2 or v3.

They know there will need to be key reasons why someone may wish to upgrade and pay for a new model, so plans have to be made to show potential customers the new things the latest model can do that the old one can't.

Even artificial/deliberate planned in limitations.

I wouldn't be surprised with that actually.

You can almost hear them on Stage.

"Wow with the things we have learned, and listened to those who already love their watches over the past year. With our new enhanced designs in the faster improved custom Apple chip, we are so pleased to announce the new ability for far more watch face customisation on Watch2"

Rounds of applause and whoops from the audience.

Despite those who find fault with the watch in terms of what it doesn't do, I have felt since the beginning that Apple released a device that did way too much for a first generation device, raising the bar awfully high, not only for their competition, but for themselves.

It seems to me they are likely struggling for ways to release a gen 2 that adds something significant to differentiate the two models within the limited confines of the watch case. The Achilles heel of which is the 38mm model. Everything has to fit into those dimensions, regardless if the 42mm can accomodate more.

I agree but I think it is more a software upgrade so maybe when they release apple watch 2 it will likely coincide with os 3, which i think it will be a feature of, and not exclusive to watch 2

That might be true.
But if this was done, like with iPads and iPhones Apple may block the new software feature from working on the older model as a key reason to "want" the newer model.

We have seen with other devices, people have hacked, and been able to turn on some features that were blocked from running.

They would not wish a key new feature to be able to run on the older model as that kills part of the reason to upgrade.

I agree.

Honestly I feel the Apple watch was/is very un-Apple.

Rather than introduce a few perfect features, and over time build on them.
The Apple watch looks like they threw everything they could think of, all with mixed UI's into a bucket, stirred them around and crammed them into the 1st Watch, just literally to see what stuck and what failed.

Then, after time and user feedback they can fine tune and improve the things that worked and junk or change dramatically the things that don't.

Personally I'm not anti that as an idea. It's just not very Apple, and the type of behaviour Samsung gets criticised for a lot.

Yes true, but i hope that the key features of the next Apple watch, and reason to upgrade, is not the ability to use different watch faces. I mean people like to customize but that is a semi-minor drop in the pan of needs/wants technologically for an apple watch.

I agree.
Software wise there should be no real reason.
Unless of course Apple use an excuse of limited memory which does not allow this to happen on the 1st watch.

If we feel the design is nice so far. Really all they could do it minimise the bezel, but Apple are not known for doing that.
So I would imagine it would be more internal specs/speed/memory with perhaps another sensor or more accurate one.

Not a LOT else you can do.

Apple could always allow you to store some watch faces on your phone, or download them. Other smart watches have hundreds of watch faces, but they do not all need to be on the watch at once. I wish Apple would address this major shortcoming of their watch. Its a computer it should have unlimited options.

Quite easy, Just like when most people have multiple watches, you like to change things up.... But our few "Actual Watch Faces" are so basic.... I hate to say but Android Wear spanks Apple on that part of the watch. Many people I know would like more realistic looking faces (One reason the Hermes Watch is so nice)

I agree. I am no tech expert but wouldn't making more watch faces be a simple thing? Maybe it's a hardware limitation.

Sadly I haven't worn my Apple Watch in 3 weeks, been wearing my Huawai Watch, love the customization

I do like that watch but Android Wear makes my stomach churn.

Nope. This is what Apple was able to offer in 2010:

As I said the last time this pic got posted, I think these were coming from Forstall and Jobs, not Ive (and certainly not Newson). The faked "open heart" in the second row is particularly annoying.
