Being a mouse app \ driver developer (shameless plug in the signature) I've tried a lot of mice. And I mean a LOT. Probably in the hundredths.
Big ones, small ones, trackballs. You name it. The magic mouse was my least favorite.
I'm not sure if it's bad design or the fact that my hand is already so used to the traditional mouse - I just couldn't get use to how flat it is.

I hated it. Even when I tried it in stores, my hand hurts. It's just too flat and small to be ergonomic. And add on the stupid charging port at the bottom?

The Mighty Mouse was better imo.
I love the Magic Mouse. The charging port on the bottom? Not so much.

I too prefer the Magic Mouse. In fact when they quit making the space gray version, I searched around and replaced all my white ones while I could still find them. In use I don't "hold" the mouse, rather my hand is resting on my finger tips over it. I use all the gestures and it would be a huge change in my workflow if I had to go back to using the keyboard or trackpad for switching desktops, pages etc.

You can see Craig's hand shaking and having difficulties with it in the keynotes where he used the mouse. :D It's really an ergonomic nightmare.

All the Logitech MX Master love here reminds me how much I wish they made a left-handed version. :sigh:

Also, I despise the Magic Mouse. The only Apple hardware product about which I can truly say that.
Me too. Wish Logitech didn't have such a poor attitude towards left handed people. Pretty much every "ambidextrous" mice they make has buttons only usable for a right thumb except those on the absolute low end where they don't have thumb buttons or the very top of the gaming line.

I really wish they just made an MX mouse with the design of the G903 without the gaming sensor and RGB. It's a nice mouse that's actually ambidextrous but the battery life is abysmal and it's expensive. I got fed up with having to charge my wireless mouse every other day and just ended up getting an MX master and putting up with it being right handed. I like being able to use it by Bluetooth with my tablet but I miss being able to swap hands though.

The Magic Mouse 2 is an improvement over the original but the original was truly godawful. Magic mouse's price is also really high for a mouse that can't customize its "buttons" in hardware. Every operating system these days will ignore your click settings on the lock screen even if there's only 1 user on the system. So if you've swapped left and right click usage for using left handed the lock screen becomes backwards from everything else. Drives me batty. I will give points to the Magic mouse for being shaped ambidextrous at least.

I've just got the MX Anywhere 3 - I don't find it as comfortable as the Magic Mouse and I miss being able to both change desktop AND go forwards backwards in apps from the mouse, but the scrolling is bloody good. I think I am going to have to go for the full fat MX3, or maybe the Triathlon...

Interesting! Definitely personal preference I guess, as I much prefer the Anywhere 3 to the MM.

What is super weird to me is that I am now back on a notebook, (docked most of the time) but for those times I am not, like in bed. On the couch. The trackpad on the m1 max 14" no longer gives me carpal issues and I dare say I like it. (but only when I am not in docked mode. )

10 years ago when I was on a MacBook pro I would always hook up a mouse. even in bed.

(sounds kinky!)

Maybe the other thing too is that being on apple silicon no longer makes my lap hotter than the Sahara and the calming lack of fan on this is quite the pleasant change from the 747 fans on the Intel model.

I have always loved the Magic Mouse (except of course the silly charge port location!), especially with the trackpad like operation but with the Bluetooth issues of my 2018 Mini I moved over to the MX Master 3 from Logitech. I rediscovered the scroll wheels (both axis's) and have grown accustomed to it so I think I will stick with it, at least until Apple fixes the BT and charging port issues.

Definitely had issues with the Bluetooth, though not as bad as some non-Apple devices. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I’d almost say it’s like Apple doesn’t want you to connect to non Apple stuff on purpose ?

My biggest complaint with the mouse is that the Bluetooth occasionally disconnects for a few seconds while working, and it happens maybe at most a couple of times a month.

This happened to me a lot on my 2017 imac.

I have a new MacBook now and it does not happen. I really think old mac's Bluetooth was rather flaky.

I so want to like the Magic Mouse but find it a bit, err, "slow"? What I mean is is that say I want to move the curser from the bottom of the screen to the top I have to move the Magic Mouse up once and it'll move the curser half way up. I then have to lift the mouse up, place it down again and move up again? Surely one vertical movement of the Magic Mouse should move the curser from bottom of screen to top? I also find the same problem when moving it horizontally. It just doesn't move the curser very far?

It seems to work fine on my 32" monitors, I can start at the top and move all the way down or vice-versa without picking it up.

I have rediscovered my beloved Magic Mouse and KB since I got my new MBP, the BT works so much better on that then my Mini.

I prefer my mouse sensitivity to be so that I can cover the whole screen in a surface area about the size of a drink coaster. With the Magic Mouse, you can't do that, because it overcompensates by trying to predict your movements too often, resulting in it slowing down unnaturally. At first I thought this was just how Mac handles pointer movement, but it's not, it's literally just the Magic Mouse.

How have you got it set up?

The Magic Mouse is an objectively bad mouse on paper, but is my favorite mouse to use. For the way I hold the mouse and use guestures with Better Touch Tool it works perfect for me and I do not get wrist pain.
