I mean the features are somewhat useful, sure. But why couldn't they just do that with the smaller "notch" that was in the iphone 13/14? I mean IMO the "island" is a huge downgrade, and the reason I still have my iphone 13. I will not buy another iPhone until they get rid of this UGLY giant hole in the top of the screen. My OCD just cannot deal with the fact that there is now a strip of screen above the island that's totally unusable, and the hole cuts into Youtube videos, so unsightly...WHY??? The iPhone 14 base and previous were so much cleaner looking. Why would they take away screen real estate like that? TBH I'd rather just have thicker bezels instead of this thing. Rant over.

I suspect with new camera hardware they would’ve had to make the notch bigger to push the camera lower on the screen so it would fit. In reality, it is worse because the portion of the screen above the cut out is useless.

This being said it’s not that big of a deal for me. People freaked out out about the notch and people are freaking out about this newer version.

If it was up to me, I wish they would have a version without a selfie camera. Apple would never do that because it’s a whole second set of SKUs, but it would be awesome.

Personally I much prefer the Dynamic Island. I didn’t like that the X-14 had symmetrical bezels everywhere except where it stuck out with the notch. This makes everything even again. It’s not my favourite to look at, but neither was the notch.

I like the Dynamic Island. I feel like it makes that strip of screen so much more useful.

Now if only they could do the same with the space under the keyboard!

There should be another poll option for "I don't care either way". 😆

People complained about the notch, now they complain about the Dynamic Island - neither of them bothered me because I don't even notice them when I'm using the phone. I'm fine with it if it gets to the point that they can have the sensors and cameras under the glass and there's nothing there at all, but it's not a feature I look forward to or even really care about.

I have an iPhone 11, so a notch. Whenever I see a more modern phone with the island, it looks much better and appears much more useful.

I'm happy my next phone will no longer have a notch. Ideally, they'll make the island smaller and smaller over time (to mimic global warming 😁) but it definitely beats the notch.

Dynamic Island was already a thing since iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max... And iPhone 15 and Plus also has the Dynamic Island...

For 16:9 video, the notch on iPhone X to iPhone 11 series and iPhone 13 series and iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will not affect the video in anyway...

For 18:9 or 2:1 video, the iPhone 13 series and iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will somewhat cut off a portion of the video but not as much as the Dynamic Island...

However, the Dynamic Island and the uniform bezel is the more pleasing to the eyes...

Why? Sharp 1080p with 401ppi - plenty for its size, best LCD with cool, bright whites, thin & light, smooth as a pebble, large battery.

Now we have OLED with its weird colour cast which shifts as you move the phone. Flat edges which are not hand friendly. Heavier, thicker devices. Ridiculous camera module. Face ID I like.

I guess it's personal preference. To me the notch in the 13 & base 14 model was the best looking "cutout" and the island is absolutely hideous. It feels extremely invasive and triggers my ocd/anxiety lol.

I agree this was a great looking phone. They definitely could have just shrunk the bezels and still had a perfectly uniform rectangle screen without any cutouts. But for some reason there is this obsession with removing the bezels as much as possible. Which I don't understand... because you have to hold the phone somewhere! I briefly had a Samsung Galaxy S10 with the curved edges and every time I'd try to watch a full screen video my hands would be triggering actions on the screen because there was no place to hold the damn phone.

2022 is calling. People still discussing this?

Are we going to debate rounded vs. flat edges again? And discuss the notch in iPhone X?

I got used to the notch and after a while didn't even think about it.... Same thing with DI.... I like DI more because it actually has some functionality and serves a purpose sometimes.

I like the Island and honestly can't even remember what/if the Notch did anything.

I'm using the 15PM on hold on a call and love seeing the equalizer and how I can easily tap it to get back to the call.

Couldn't you just tap the green highlighted area in the upper left before? That's how it works on my 13 and every phone prior. The DI didn't really add any functionally IMO.

That highlighted area is not very intuitive. The DI implementation is more intuitive - the phone icon, the waveform, it's obvious to the user that there's an active call.

Maybe not important to you or I who are more tech literate than average, but we need to keep in mind that the average level of tech literacy is incredibly low.
