Keep outside dimensions

If Apple changes the outside dimensions it will make a lot of case makers: happy/sad. New designs required, more sales, complaints. My Mophie Juice Pack wouldn't fit anymore. They can change the screen size and gut the insides, but leave the case the same.

Ok, I know it's not out yet but these case and phone mockups for iphone 5 are making me nervous. I really hope they don't ruin the iphone by making it longer and wider.I think I am gonna stick with my iphone 4 with the IOS 5 if this is the case. Anyone else feel this way?

Why would it make you "nervous"? Are you going to be forced to buy one?

New design looks good to me.

Slightly bigger screen + getting rid of the daft glass back of the iP4 sounds like a winning combo.

Thinking about it now if the iPhone 5 is quite a bit bigger I think I may just go and get a white Samsung Galaxy S2. The form factor is one of the only things making me want the iPhone over the SGS2.

It's supposed to be a half inch taller and a half inch wider... That's quite big!

I'm guessing there will be a new bigger and better iPhone 5, and the iPhone 4 will stay in place with minor cosmetic differences (plastic back) at a lower price.

That's what she said!

:D

iPhone 5 Design

Well, I guess I'm lucky. I bought my iphone4 whilst still under contract with another phone. In January, I qualify for a handset upgrade at contract renewal time.

I will get the 5, and if I like it sell my iPhone 4. If I don't, then I'll keep my 4 :)

Well, I for one welcome the wider iPhone. Ever since I've used the HTC Desire HD of a friend of mine, the iPhone screen just feels cramped and outdated. A bigger screen would be a welcome addition to the iPhone.

However, I'm not sure what to think of the tapered design. I hope it won't distract from the overall feeling.

Bigger screens is where Apple is heading to. The 4 will be the lower based model with perhaps a plastic back (due to manufacturing cost), lower storage, and retain its size. If you don't like it, then just stick to the current iPhone 4 or get one if you don't like the new announcement. Nobody is forcing you to buy and there will another new iPhone every year to reignite this interests again and again. You can always skip a generation. Wash, rinse, repeat. Every iPhone since the first has been an evolutionary product. Nothing revolutionary and you can't expect Apple to do that every year.

I am wanting a bigger screen myself as I am tired of looking at the same 3.5 inch screen for years now. I am not looking forward to the iPhone 5 as much as the HTC Vigor. 1.5GHz and a 1280x720 resolution (first 720p display on a phone). Higher res than the iPhone 4's 960x640. I can fit some of my old laptop's wallpapers into that phone.

The "supposed" Iphone 5 design is a wait and see for me. The 4 is my favorite design in the line and one of the major things I like about it is when laid on the table and tapping on the screen on either edge, the phone doesn't rock back and forth. This was something I hated with the 3g/3gs.

The curved edges are a welcome return since it should help with the phones feel in the hand, but I wouldn't want it at the expense of the stability on a desk.

If Apple can reach both, then add a bigger screen, I can definintely see myself liking the new design. Especially if it was a matted aluminum back like the ipads.

Personnally, I would rather keep the same screen size and have a smaller phone. I find my iPhone 4 a bit cumbersome in my pant's pocket...

Perhaps a smart phone isn't for you then, ever consider that? The iPhone 4 is already one of the smallest phones on the market.

To the OP: Can you imagine after all this hoopla over new, exciting designs to complete with the new phones on the market... if the iPhone 5 is the same as the 4 but new chip, camera and iOS5?

Personally, I think all these new cases we're seeing are for cheap iPhone knock-offs. Simple as that.
