I don't think that is a fair statement. Both my iPhone and my iPhone 3G were suitable for the software that came out in there time, say, 2 years after the launches. After that it's time to upgrade.

I kinda wonder if the people who complain the 3G is slow are those that got it after the 3GS was out and got it for the cheap iphone price.

I mean I am pretty sure my 3G was faster when I first got it (ok, when I first got it safari was unstable like crazy but within a month Apple updated the OS and fixed that problem). But I also got it a month or so after it was new (I didn't even realize it had just come out or that it was different from the original iphone honestly). I certainly don't remember it having lag issues like it does now.

So yeah, the 3G was fast enough for its time. Honestly, for most people it would still be fine. My coworker just updated from her original iphone and is happy with her 3G.

No, I didn't get the iPhone 4 because of iOS4. I want it because the better screen, better battery life, better camera (w/ flash), higher quality video recording, appearance, front facing camera (FaceTime), faster speed, etc.

All stuff that no amount of jailbreaking or newer software can give me.

Dude. iPhone 4 is like a ****ing filet. iOS4 is just the bacon wrapped 'round it. Mmmm i can't wait.

I am happy to be able to try iOS4 on my 3gs before receiving the 4. This way, I have a benchmark and am not naive thinking the iPhone 4 is the reason for it all.

I have to admit, iOS4 on my 3GS is pretty impressive. The speed increase and fluidity is impressive, makes me wonder why they were not able to do this before?

As for reason to upgrade, the screen and camera are a huge reason but increased battery life and hopefully reception will make it a winner.

I cannot wait to try the reception out. I am going away to our hunting cabin (ok, I admit, more like beer drinking cabin) this friday. None of us get a signal at the cabin so we have to drive up to the hill which we call "the phone booth" to get a bar. If I could get one bar at the cabin or even 2 bars at the phone booth it would be huge and restore some faith into AT&T and iPhone.
