to all those waiting for the next unlock I say learn how yourself. every time apple updates they patch the last exploit every time they have to find a new exploit 4.2 has been out a whopping 10 days and your already bitching. this is why people updated to the latest firmware and then say I accidentally upgraded please help me. sorry to say unlocks are a low priority get used to it. ;)

Have you checked craigslist, I don't know what it's like in South Texas, but in NYC, iPhone 4's are always being sold factory unlock, jailbroken, etc.

yes, it's the only source around here lol. The only iphone 4's being sold here are all 16gb. Don't know if I should sell my 32gb iphone 4 to a friend and just downgrade to a 16gb unlocked for about the same price. I'd basically be trading in my 32gb for a 16gb just to have it unlocked to use on t-mobile. By the way, the iphone 4 16gb are going for about $560-$600 and those are the 16gb. I haven't seen a 32gb unlocked sold in months. By the way, I purchased my phone on the last week of October and it came with baseband 2.10.04 so alot of us didn't have a choice out the box to downgrade the firmware or anything to get our iphone unlocked otherwise we would of done it by now. If unlock isn't a priority, then I guess jailbreaking is since those 2 are the only main things people seek.

Thanks for the constructive criticism, be it a douchey one.

If you knew how to read, you would have seen I have come from 4.1. I have not updated to 4.2.

Apple doesn't unlock phones. ATT wont unlock a US phone for use in Europe, you have to buy a European iPhone4 and perhaps the European carrier will unlock the iPhone4 they sell you. AFAIK, if you have a US iPhone in Europe, you are SOL.

What's the going rate for IP4s running BB 01.59 right now? I preserved my baseband through 4.1 just so I'd have the option of unlocking if I ever wanted to, but if there are people out there willing to pay a premium I'd be more than happy to Craigslist this thing right now and just go buy a factory unlocked one from Canada...

Hmm well, don't know if you're willing to spend the money, but you can buy a factory unlocked from canda for $779. Cost more, but less hassle:

In other countries, they sell hardware unlocked. Either the provider sends the request to Apple's unlock servers or Apple sells it unlocked. Before you ask, the devteam can't break the encryption of the unlock servers. It's extremely complex. Now, if you know of a way to break it, apply for the devteam.

I don't know if we'll get the software unlock in the first half of 2011, but I think the latter half of 2011 is a reasonable expectation.
How does that work?

OP, you can still sell your iphone 4 on ebay for a nice chunk of change, even if it isn't unlocked. Then you can try craigslist for an unlocked one (with the 1.59 baseband). That's what I would do in your shoes...

Thanks for that, but am still unsure. I'd have to sell my current phone and don't know how much I should price it for. It's an iPhone 4 on 4.1 but baseband is 2.10.04 so all i've done is jailbroken it. It's a 32gb model though and i've seen 16gb models jailbroken going for about $540-$600 locally on craigslist. I don't wanna pay a huge difference just to get it unlocked that's why. I also wanna be sure that once it's unlocked that I can for sure use it on t-mobile pre paid service as I mainly want it for unlimited text and calling some times.
