I wouldn't say pissed but I was hoping for a matte back. I stupidly assumed it was going to get a slight update to the case and sold all of my 3G cases along with my old iPhone.

You know....I got a replacement 3G about 4 months ago due to a screen problem. I haven't used a case on that replacement at all and it's actually LESS SCRATCHED than when I had a case on my previous iPhone 3G....

trying to keep it scratch-less actually scratched it more

go naked!!!

Thanks for the advice! :)

I've had a similar situation. I got the case for Christmas and for the 6 months I've used it it's scratched my phone quite a bit.

Maybe I'll buy a clear film/skin type thing and call it protected.

I don't like cases you guys. I just want an iPhone where I can use it without a case and not have to worry about fingerprints getting all over the back of it.

I think matte finishes often have worse fingerprinting problems than shiny. I had a Blackjack with a matte coating and it would get shiny, greasy spots instead of fingerprints. Had a friend with a matte-finish motorcycle helmet and you couldn't even look at it without it marking.

In the print industry, we matte coat stuff all the time by applying a polypropylene laminate and that finish has a well deserved reputation for getting trashed looking faster than any other coating.

Get Bodyguardz. I tried Invisible Shield and it's way too sticky and has a nasty orange peel look to it

bodyguardz was the closest thing to a naked iPhone in feel and looks

yeah after i get the 3GS i'm not getting a case for it again, I'm done lol

I agree, I had a matte Macbook and if I looked at it the wrong way it would get greasy fingerprint marks.

I think if they made the back of the iPhone the same sort of texture as the front of the iPod classic though it'd be really nice :)

Yeah, I've got the same attitude as the OP. I was definitely hoping for matte instead of glossy, although it's not a deal breaker. I hate using cases on phones, so the way it looks when I buy it is the way it's going to look for the 1 or 2 years I own it. As far as the name goes, I think it'll be okay as long as they don't add another letter or number next year. I think '3G S' is about as far down that road as they need to go. Also concerned about the cracking, also going to wait and see the reaction from the first couple of weeks, although I'm pretty sure I'll be getting one unless the reaction is really, really bad lol.
