Not really disappointed but welcome to lighter and smaller but same 9.7" iPad Air.

iPad getting ac or not I don't really think it is that importance since you are not going to do lot of data transfer within the network. So does it really matter?

As for touch ID, I agree it should be included since iphone5s came with it. Which make unlocking simpler which Apple also do highlight, they realise alot of people do not passcode lock your iDevice so I'm surprise Apple never add in touch ID for iPad Air/mini.

Well for me I'm still holding on to my iPad 3 and don't really see a need to upgrade since everything run fine on it. So I will hold on and wait for iPad Air2 or whatever Apple call it next year.

PS: i'm sensing we might see iPad Pro next year... finger cross

my only gripe is they aren't offering 32gb for $499.
As far as i'm concerned, both the mini retina and the air are flagship models; you pick the size you want and do stuff.

I'm sure there'll be something else next year, and next year and next year and next year... unless you have $$$$ to spare every time an iDevice comes up that's fine go for it :)

... what do you think?

I think there should be a third poll choice: "OF COURSE I AM, WHO ISN'T??!"

I love this year's iPad, but I always want to see what is coming next. Everyone wants to see the next step in this rapidly developing tech.

In waiting for next, next, next years iPad with bling diamond and a gorgeous 2ft retina display.

'I'm a bit disappointed in this years ipad "upgrade". i wanted: more ram, 32 gb storage, touch i.d. a7x processor, possibly an updated camera (i don't use it though) as well as the smaller form factor. i'm buying this years ipad air only to hold me over until next year's update. what do you think?

I'm fine with the update. This year was all about retina for the mini and mini-like full-size iPad. That's what we got and I am happily looking forward to getting a mini. As to your points:
- More RAM - Lets wait for the tear downs
- 32 gb storage - you can have this if you want to pay for it
- Touch ID - meh, I don't need this, though it can see why others want it
- A7x processor - Once again, let's wait and see what the tear downs reveal
- Updated camera - Not important to me but others may want it

You can spend and waste a lot of time looking for the perfect device. It may never meet all of your requirements. Why wait? I'd rather indulge now than wait for something that may never come.

Thinner: No
Lighter: No
Touch ID: Probably, but who cares.

You're looking at a camera upgrade, and probably a bump to a 32/64/128/256GB storage lineup in the same chassis. You just got a huge size/weight/speed overall. What the hell more do you want?

The op will never be satisfied. It's not getting thinner or lighter any time soon. And does it need to weigh under a pound? Touch id and a spec bump for the next iPad "air" and I can do without the sensor

The fact that the air has the same processor as the iphone 5s has to disappoint a decent number of people seeing as it's always had a better processor until this year.

You have apple on everything else, but this I don't get. The x processors needed the extra juice for the screen and we paid dearly in size and weight and runtime for the privilege. The A7 is ridiculously good, almost single handily responsible for the thinner battery and case. The 5c is a more expensive device and relying on a single chip yields more features and more economy of scale.

Otoh, if this is just not about being able to feel better than phone users, we can't help you. Both are capable devices and you're talking about a really high end phone, apples flagship.

Sorry I say, but $500 isn't much. The a7 is the best processor on the market. But you want more. The touch id is for the flagship mobile product of apple. But you want it in a $500 device. Ram is bumped up. You probably meant storage. You can pay for more. Only $599. Oh but you want that for free too.

Guess what, I agree it's not unrealistic expectations, rather, just high expectations. And apple has no obligation to fulfill your wishes. Trust me, you will be disappointed with the upcoming updates next year. But for $500, go get a better tablet. Let us know what you buy

Well said. :)

I always look forward to what next year will bring, and the year after that, etc...

Doesn't mean I won't enjoy my iPad Air this year.

What do you mean, we aren't going to do a lot of in-network data transfer? I for one would love it if wifi transfer speed was fast enough to wirelessly sync large video files from my computer to my iPad.

Next year the iPad Air part two will probably have a slightly better camera, a slightly better CPU and Touch ID, and just maybe ac. So, since I really don't need Touch ID on the iPad and don't use the camera on an iPad, I will get this years iPad Air and be very happy with it. In 2015 perhaps I will re-think my decision. :D

i'm not disappointed with the Air and Mini gen2...i think new Mini customers are getting a heckuva deal even with the price increase to $399. the Air is nice but i need a minimum of 32gb and it's not even remotely worth it for me to drop $600 just to upgrade to retina and weight savings (compared to the ipad2 32gb that i already have). the faster processor is a nice plus but assuming the Air only has 1GB of RAM, it's not going to be much of a benefit for what i use my tablet for.

i am waiting and hoping that next year, they'll come out with 2gb RAM and preferably 64gb priced at $599. if both of these don't happen, i'll probably keep my ipad2 for another year.

a better camera and touchid will probably be in the next ipad but i don't care that much about that.
