Feel exactly the same way! I was planning on getting a white macbook or possibly the low end unibody, but this just makes everything better! And the education discount gave me $100 off which just made my day. Just ordered mine :D Fan-freaking-tastic!

Same as me. Was looking at the white, low-end uMB or refurb 2.4.

After 6 relatively pain free years with my iMac G4, I'm now psyched to get my hands on the new pro.

Features that will come in handy..

SD card slot for my Fuji
Better screen
Backlight keys
longer lasting battery :)

I was this close to purchasing the updated WhiteBook, but held off...

I'm glad I did, they are making the Macbooks so close to their brethren, its mind boggling. I may buy the entry 13" MBP or the base 15" MBP depending on what I have for money at the end of the month.

I really could've used the Expresscard, but I'll just get a USB 3G card.

No one should be considering the 2.53GHz model - it simply isn't worth the money. It's significantly more expensive and is only slightly faster - the difference in processor clock speeds would not be perceivable in day to day use.

Previously people had the lack of a backlit keyboard to use as an excuse not to buy the cheapest model. Now they don't have that. Buy the low end machine and upgrade the hard drive yourself if you need it. If you need 4GB RAM (unlikely) then get that too. It's still much cheaper than buying the high end 13" model.

I don't know why you mentioned "better screen". The MBPs all have a "60% greater color gamut" display, as claimed in the keynote. I do agree the last aluminum MB did not have an ideal LCD panel, the new 13" MBP panel should be better.

I'm glad I did,

It's the 13" MBP I was hoping for last fall. But I'm happy enough with my alu MB and won't be looking to upgrade until we see Nehalems in the Mac laptops.

Agreed that this is the computer that could have been out last fall. This is the model I'll be buying as I had been considering both the earlier UMB and the White Macbook to be compromises when comparison shopping them.

if i had the money to buy one i would, i love the portability of my whitebook and nvidia and backlight keyboard is perfect i have a gaming laptop so discrete would be nice but its not nessicary and i think these are the best graphics on a 13 inch right?

Just Got It!!!

picked up 1199 model at fifth ave store in NYC, setting it up now, its BEAUTIFUL!!!! they finally gave me a reason to upgrade from my late 2006 MBP

It's definitely a great machine. It has so many improvements.

I only feel sorry for those 15" MBP owners who lost their Expresscard slot. An SD card slot sounds kind of useless. It's not that SD cards aren't common, but micro and mini USB is becoming so commonplace in devices that having a reader that can only read a single type of card seems pretty limiting. I use Compact Flash in my DSLR (not a consumer model...), xD in my Fuji F31fd (fantastic camera), and a micro-SD in my Nokia 5800 XM smartphone.

I think the reason it's not a multi-card reader is because the unibody process means the machine wouldn't be nearly as nice if a multi-card slot was put in.
