The narrow bezels on the Mini haven't particularly bothered me, but I laugh at Apple's claim of cleverly knowing the difference between deliberate and non-deliberate touches. Doesn't happen often as I don't put my fingers there, but if I do it'll usually register a touch when I don't want it. No biggie though.

I just want to clarify my story a bit. I don't have a big problem with touch rejection when I am holding the mini and scrolling, etc. it's only when typing. I type with my thumbs and, as such, they are usually bent. The small bezel of the mini causes the meaty part of my palm below my right thumb to hit the backspace and other random keys. This was my issue. I tried different ways of holding it, but it wasn't natural.

In any case, the larger bezel helps prevent this for me - it keeps that part of my palm away from the keyboard. The 5 may work better for me because it is actually a wider device. Time will reveal all. As mentioned, if it works for me, I will wait for them in the refurb store and I will consider any money "lost" by buying old tech on the cusp of new tech as a rental fee for a usable experience in the meantime.

Alternately, my 4 is targeted to be delivered on the 10th, which means I would have until the 24th to return if there were news of the 5 by then. But I wouldn't take this option because I feel it would be disingenuous on my part. Hence waiting a few months.

And when you sell your 4th generation after the 5th is out, you will lose a good percentage of your value. I would rather hold out another month and see what comes out, because then even if you order the old generation you can get a discount.

Look at it this way: while you are holding out, he is gaining the use of the device he needs. Isn't that worth something?

There will be a zillion (or more) cases that you can use that will provide a lip on the edges to keep your fingers away.

I use a couple Galaxy Notes also, and with the pen this is really an issue, and cases work.

I initially worried about this with the mini, and tablets in general, but I don't think it's an issue.

But really we shall see, won't we :D

Both good points. However, we have a broken ipad and need a replacement. I let the insurance lapse on my wife's ipad 2 because it is a couple of years old. Still, I can sell that with a broken screen, buy a refurb 4 and give my wife the 3. If my hands cooperate with the 5, I can wait a few months for them to be in the refurb store, sell the 3, pass on the 4 and not be out TOO much money.

Bottom line is we both use iPads for work (and play) so I either pay $150+ for a screen fix or just buy a 4. I opted for the latter.

isnt the return policy 30 days? just return it at no cost when the new one is out for the new one... IF it was me its what id do. some people do not like using the return policies ...

Weird, it works for me. The 5 will have smaller bezels, but it will probably larger bezels than the Mini.

Just curious. I have larger hands and when I played with my nieces iPad Mini I felt like i was always holding it like 1mm away from the screen edge and was afraid to touch something I didnt want to or whatever.

It may be false worry on my part and Im not even sure I'll get a 5th gen iPad. Just concerned that full size iPads end up with a bezel that has too small of a "grip" area. I get the idea of being lighter and smaller but it IS a full-size iPad so users should expect it to be larger. Its NEVER going to be an ipad mini...only the iPad mini can be "mini". ;)

Remember that the bezzels are thinker on the iPad 5 compared to the mini.

I am somewhat concerned. This will be my first iPad purchase, and I don't handle change very well. But a poster up thread said Apple never makes bad design decisions, so I'm going to hope for the best.

So it seems I'm not alone in this concern. OK, maybe nervous was too strong of a word. Let's say interested disposition. Or something. :D

Mine does get used in landscape more than portrait like many other users so that's a factor. I'll just check one out at my local BB or whatever. If I don't like it then the 4 is a solid upgrade from my 2 which will go to the kid.
