CTV's Silverlight streaming Olympic coverage wouldn't work for me at all in Safari, so I had to use Firefox. It's not a terrible hardship I admit, but still a bit annoying.
Funny, NBC's Silverlight streams all worked perfectly for me in Safari (and Camino, for that matter). Well, except for the bloated logfile issue, which really soured me on the whole experience--up till noticing that I was downright impressed.CTV's Silverlight streaming Olympic coverage wouldn't work for me at all in Safari, so I had to use Firefox. Not to bash macs, but I don't see them as being superior over anything. And to have a superior than thou mentality or being that arrogant is just plain retarded.
Switcher, 2010 Edition:
- Tire of Windows
- Don't seek advice
- Buy Mac because it's "different"
- Discover "different" means "not the same"
- Still don't seek advice
- Attempt to do things in old way, not new "different" way
- Get frustrated
- Finally find Mac resource
- Still don't ask advice, but introduce self by venting
- Refuse to work cooperatively to find solutions
- Disappear into the night
The lesson being, if you want help, ask for it. Don't start the conversation by making patently absurd statements when you don't have a real basis for them.
You registered just for that?
Um, OK, I guess. You have a good time with Win7. I'll have a good time with Win7, XP Pro SP3, Win Server 2003, 2007, 2008, Ubuntu Workstation and Server, and OSX. On the same 13" laptop.
Not "superior than thou," just plain fact. I need to support a wide array of clients, OS's, applications, databases and environments in their native forms. Somehow, I don't think anything from Dell's gonna cut it.
This brings up the "are you this arrogant" issue so plagued by mac users. This statement is so condescending it makes me laugh. He wanted something different...we can thank mac advertising for this, he wanted something that worked, again mac boy Justin Long or whatever his name is. He is frustrated because of macs false ad campaign which directly affected his purchasing decision, in turn he decided to vent his frustrations,
You on the other hand sir, are "patently" attacking an individual for expressing an opinion in a format used to do such, in that case your opinion is more invaluable and out of context than the original post. That said, maybe people should just comment in a fashion that would shed light on a situation(help) instead of a demeaned attack on someones personal opinion.
And how does he have no "basis" for his statement? Do you personally know him or have had the same scenarios face you in your computing experience.
Just my opinion!!

So you can't stand Windows
And the thing that doesn't work on the Mac you have problems with is... Windows
Got it
Had you been here for more than a day, you would understand this is an incessant issue we deal with repeatedly, and every bit of it is absolute fact.
You are entitled to your opinion, but as I said, if you want assistance, ask for it. If you want to froth at the mouth, go elsewhere. We've got real people asking for advice and suggestions, and we spend an inordinate amount of time trying to make their experience successful and pleasant.
What I don't take kindly to are folks that pop in out of nowhere, make inane claims in tones of righteous indignation, and have no capacity to see beyond their own ego. Temper tantrums won't get far, nor will defense of them.
You are welcome to take your feigned indignance and play elsewhere. If you have a need to be filled, we'll do our damndest to fill it, and there are thousands of us here with a vast array of expertise that spend our free time sharing it. However, if you're just here to be another one-night wonder, just say so and we'll tune you out.
This brings up the "are you this arrogant"

blah blah blah bah.

Look to the lower right of the post screen, next to the "Quote" button is a smaller one with a "+". That's multi-quote, which allows you to combine multiple quotes in a single response. to avoid strings of successive posts, a forum, no-no. Alternatively, you may also edit your original post to include additional commentary as appropriate.

OMG!
irrelevant.
....
Actually, in fairness to the OP, they said MagicJack, not macjack. If you missed the infomercials, it's a little hardware dongle to let you use a regular landline phone with their VOIP system (Skype-like). Price wise it's not a terrible deal--a one-time fee gets you the hardware and unlimited US calls for a year, if memory serves--but they advertise with infomercials, which pretty much tells you what kind of company they are.I've learned two new words: macjack and macbash. Thank you OP.![]()
system.logWorked for me too, in Safari... But - - What log file do I need to look at? Thanks in advance.![]()
...
system.log
Open up Console.app in your Utilities folder to view logfiles. You'll see that if you've been running NBC's Olympic video you'll have thousands of lines along the lines of "kCGErrorIllegalArgument: CGSGetWindowBounds: NULL window".
At 750MB an hour (at least, that's the rate it's bloating my logs--you can see the size of a log in the lower left corner of Console.app when it's selected) you can watch some events without really causing a problem, but leave a window open for a day or two and things could get ugly.
Note that logs will roll over and get deleted automatically after a week, so unless you're really short on drive space you can just ignore it and let the system purge them on its own.
And please note: That's called being helpful when somebody asks for help with a problem.
may I add:There may be a sticky thread related to these points - I have dealt with this kind of attitude from switchers more than once before...
- Assume that all the other Mac users must be morons for not noticing this problem
