I can't decide whether I think Apple will make this move to 13'' retina macbook pros. Now I don't mean they won't make a 13'' laptop with a retina display, because logically they will, but I mean whether they will categorize it under the "Pro" label.
However, I think the point of the new RMBP (I own one) was to really make the best laptop out there. When Apple gets into 13'' territory, however, I feel like it more of a consumer product than a "Pro" product, regardless of whether it's a retina display or not. I can see Apple bringing back the plain "Macbook" label and categorizing a 13'' Retina Macbook under that label, but I can also see them eventually phasing out the older gen MBP's completely, leaving only the 15'' Pro (and possibly 17'') in the "Pro" category. This is what I predict happening. That would leave them, then, to include Retina displays in the Macbook Air category, leaving just 3 different laptops to buy, or 4 if they make a 17'' Pro. I can see them bringing a 13'' Macbook with a Retina display either late this year or early next year, regardless of what it's called. I sort of have to agree though that a 13'' laptop is the ideal to use. You can use it in bed, at a desk, in class, or whatever situation and it's comfortable in all. If I didn't have an 11'' air to complement my new RMBP, I would've been wishing for a 13'' Retina just like you.

I have to agree...that's a completely opinionated statement. Just because some prefer 15'', I would probably argue more prefer 13''.

Finally got to the store today, took a look at the 15" RMBPs. I was worried about older apps but I found that the optimal resolution is not Retina option but one up ie. 1680x1050 mode on the 15" RMBP.
Still the form factor is just too much of a footprint for me... 13" is ideal, 13" RMBP with the following is what I'm really wishing for...
- Quad core processor
- 8/16GB options
- Retina Display
- Dual graphics (integrated + dedicated)
The 13" RMBP would really be in one up mode like a 1440x900 MBA which is what I'm typing this on. I just like having the processing power + RAM + display + graphics, but not the bigger footprint. Guessing if they do release a 13" RMBP, it might be dual core, integrated graphics only. Still might consider one of those... though it'd be sweet if they could get all the 15" goodies and a smaller panel into a 13" form factor (could live if they had to remove a port or two even).
So I guess its time to wait to see if the rumors are true - and I might be one of the first ones in line if the 13" RMBP comes to reality.

The only upside to the 13" is the weight. But now that the 15" RMBP weighs the exact same. I don't see the need.
